My brother is going to transition to skiing from snowboarding and I'm pretty sure he's committing. He asked me what to buy and all I told him so far was to go to a boot fitter and get properly fitted for a boot first. Since we are going to Mammoth, I told him to go to footloose and get fitted proper. He doesn't have a lot of cash so I want to tell him to lean towards freestyle boots like full tilt, dabellos, atomic, etc...., not the rental crap so he won't have to buy boots again in the future. Next on the list for him are skis and bindings. He is 5'7" and around 125-130 lbs so I'm thinking some 170-176 skis and 10 din bindings. Thinking about telling him to pick skis out from this page http://www.evo.com/shop/ski-snowboard-sale/ski/skis/park-pipe/mens/size-r_170-179-cm/s_price-asc.aspx.
Would it be okay for a new skier to buy a park set up? Personally I think it will be fine as long as he learns the basics and learns. Open to gear suggestions and comments.
