Some kid on my fb friends list is seriously saying that it left the atmosphere and it is in orbit lol. Isn't the escape velocity of earth like 25000 mph???

I am about 70% sure someone knows where the plane is. You'll notice that the news agencies are showing the last known ping from the satellites, but the plane was pinging the whole time it was off radar until the last ping, which would show a heading. Since that info hasn't been released yet, I think action is taking place behind the scenes.

It's actually less than 1500 mph and these planes have the ability to reach speeds near that especially when they are loaded up and are already flying at high altitudes. Wind gusts up there can give them the boost to ultimately get very high into the atmosphere and possibly breach it into space, although this scenario is unlikely, it's possible.

Don't even think about it reaching orbit for more than a fraction of a second. A Boeing 777 flies absolutely nowhere near 1500 mph. It's more likely that it crashed into the ocean so hard that it burrowed to the center of the earth than that it reached orbit.

For one thing, the rolls Royce engines on it are oxygen fed...

Anyway, yeah, the delay of information from the news media is suspect, but it could be for any number of reasons. It's an alarmist attitude to assume that the lack of updated info automatically means something shady is happening, but that may be the case. This story is seriously like a novel, just without an end yet.

I don't think people realize the scope of this search. It doesn't matter how much technology we have, the plane flew on for hours without being tracked. They don't even know where to look, much less where to find it. This is a unique case. And with all the parties involved looking for this plane, if it were found there would be an immediate leak by someone, or an official release, whichever first.

but anyways back on track. a lot of these theories are taking away from the story i feel like. like that satellite one for instance, sounds like some stirring the pot about the US' surveillance techniques.
