Ground loses contact with flight from Kuala Lampur to Beijing. Says they would have run out of fuel by now. Pretty crazy stuff.

facebook isn't the issue. it sounds like it's an instant messenger service that might autoconnect as long as the phone remains on.

But once again, think of how long your phones battery lasts. Even if you barely touch it, most phones would be long dead by this point.

It's definitely an interesting point, but I think people are putting way too much emphasis on it.

100ft = roughly 30 meters, so on average the depth is greater than what that case is rated for. Also, that's not exactly a phone case, it's more of a relatively large protective carrying case for an assortment of valuables. It isn't exactly meant for carrying your phone around in on the daily and I doubt anyone on the plane had their phone in something like that.

ELT's don't transmit underwater, the antenna would need to be above the surface. I think they float but it would need to be dislodged from the craft and in all honesty if they hit the water nose first its probably destroyed. The blox box pingers would be the only option at this point.

i agree. though i do remember reading something along the lines that the phone was showing active on that service up through mid day monday when it finally disconnected. which would roughly fit about the right timeline for a phone with no use...i don't know if any of them are STILL showing connected.

and who knows, there may be a perfectly reasonable explanation for it, but all things considered, it adds to the WTF of the whole situation. this whole thing is a huge WTF.

sounds like the pieces are rather squarish....definitely now what i would expect plane wreckage dimensions to be...

13*18 meters
14*19 meters
24*22 meters


the wingspan of a 777 is 61 meters and it's length is 64 meters. i just don't understand how those dimensions could result in debris that size....

but then again, im certainly not a specialist.

on the other hand, i can't imagine the chinese going public with these kind of details without being fairly certain of their findings....unless there's a cover up of some sort going on...

with the fuselage, if the impact were hard enough, i would it would imagine it could break apart. say it broke into a 20m long section then was essentially unrolled, the circumference of teh fuselage could easily be 30m around

Its pretty fucking obvious to me that there is a cover up going on. YOU DONT JUST LOSE A FUCKING 777. My bet is the cia or malaysian equivalent knows exactly what happened by this point and there is a reason the world doesnt know

it could definitely float. maybe not for very long, but it could. The tail from AF447 floated for a few days until they found it.

the vertical stabilizer on an a330 is made of composite materials and thus was found floating. the same part on a 777 is made of metal and would not float. very unlikely any large components are still floating.

and its hard to compare these two crashes without knowing much about what happened. still the tail piece was found 5 days later w/ af447 and the main hull was not found until ~2 years later. point being, could be a very long time before anyone knows what the hell happened here.

learn about water displacement and ballasts. planes don't have ballasts, and a wrecked plane wouldn't displace water in such a way that it would float

CNN is now reporting that data the engines sent back suggests the plane was flying for four hours after it lost contact with the ground. Could somebody have actually stolen a plane?

CNN is just repeating info from WSJ. According to the Malaysian gov't, Boeing and Rolls Royce deny it, but a spokeman for Rolls Royce declined to comment on the matter citing "an official air accident investigation".

who the fuck knows. there's so much fucking speculation going on right now. i have a hard time believing that a plane that size flew for four more hours without being spotted ANYWHERE. Then again, i also have a hard time understanding how a plane that size can just drop off of the face of the earth without a single trace of evidence.
