Business is shady, this is business, granted at it's worse end, it's still business. Companies competing for money isn't all bad though. Think about all the attention being brought to all the sponsors about all this hub-ub. Maybe it will entice them to dump more and more into the film maker's pockets. If I had the cash right now I'd order Forward, and High 5. I loved Strike 3, even though I am not all that into lots of urban stuff, I still liked it. I hope this all gets resolved and people open their eyes and see that walking on the little isn't all that benficial, no matter who you are.
In this industry it seems like there is this hatred of anything that resembles a large company, i.e. Salomon, MSP, etc. The sport may not be big enough to handle big business tactics, but eventually I hope it will. That way these guys actually make money for their riding, and filming. If you say these small companies don't do it for the money, I would have to disagree with you. It's maybe not all for the money, but anyone starting a business is doing it to make money. You don't start a business (other than non-profit) without wanting, or expecting compensation for your work. That's not how it works.
I have tons of respect for everyone pushing this industry, especailly the guys who come back year after year, without having a million to produce a movie. This thread sucks because all it does is put a rift in our small sport. Freeskiing is Freeskiing, to me that includes Park, Pipe, Big Mountain, Urban, even ski basing, all of it is newschool to me, because oldschool to me is back scrathers, and gate chasing.
It seems like a little acceptance and respect could go a long way here.
With the sport being so small, MSP needs to re-evaluate it's practices because I'm sure within 5 years, freeskiing will be dominated by small rider-owned companies who are just being able to through some money into the movies and won't take to kindly to this sort of Big Business Bullying.
MSP is the big fish in a small pond, but needs to watch out because the small fish have the tenacity of piranhas, and have die-hard fans who with the same passion.
