To judge a movie because of the medium used to film it is utterly retarded. Scandalous was filmed with the cheapest camera ever used to record skiing, and it is one of the funnest movies to watch, still, what 4 years later. Same goes for Second Generation and Balance.

Berman made a comment a year or two ago that people wouldnt let him film because he wasnt shooting 16mm and laughed him off because he was only shootting digi. I guess dumbasses like that are still around a couple years later.

what? spinks is right. he's not saying the film is worse. the picture QUALITY is worse. digi doesn't look as good as film - ever.

I think the best way to put it is they're using their power to bully other companies and take sponsorship away from them. They should just focus on making a better, higher quality product than every other company and they'll continue to be more successful. They shouldn't pull strings to fuck up these other companies so that all the money funnels to their own pockets. They money and sponsors should come from the good product not hardline tactics.

I have a feeling that MSP did more than just call-out WSKI for using Top Gun footage, I imagine they threatened to tell Owners of the Top Gun footage.

Birdhouse did the same thing with a Queen song, and it took them about two or three years to find out that it was being used w/out consent, all birdhouse had to do was pull ths song out of any further makings of the film. The same would have most likly would have happened to Poorboyz.

seriously if you wanna buy movies with more big mountain skiing buy, free radicals serious, Un Chalet Dans Les Alpes, Nuis de la gliss, special delivery, some swedish posse movie, or some TGR flick.
But in my opinion fuck msp theyre slow mow movies are fucking boring to watch with all that shitty music.
And dont bash on L1P that probably produced the best feelgood movie ever.

Finally some facts, or close to it depending on what side if comes from, I'm sure MSP would have a different story for all of this.

Props to CR for not giving in. Is that why his segment in Yearbook sucks? Levin's last piece of evidence was a good example of what no one outside the idustry sees until a rider suddenly doesn't appear in their movies. That was complete Bullshit, plain and simple. There is a line in business between doing something unpopular, and something just plain dumb. I believe MSP has crossed it. I can't say I won't ever buy one of their movies again, I like them, but I will think twice about it.

whats wrong with that? oh I dunno, only the fact that Iberg and Tanner were co-directors of the movie, with production backing from PBP (Iberg has been with PBP since he started), there was a deliberate undercutting of their budget, then and atempt halfway through the filming of the movie, to eliminate one of the directors (iberg) and the producer (PBP) by dangling a carrot infront Tanner and CR's noses to lure them away.

From what I have read, Steve Winter is an asshole. I think that can be determined. It is quite obvious that he is making any and every attempt to monopolize the ski film business under MSP.

I do not believe that everybody should boycott MSP, however I do hope Steve Winter and Murray Wais see this thread, and perhaps re-evaluate their business ethics.

...he died doing what he loved. He will always be rememberd as a great snowboarder, but more importantly as a great friend.

on the digi vs. film thing...

when i met berman we talked about his video stike 3. i had never heard of him before, and strike 3 just cam out.

heres what he said about using digi- a lot of the bigger companies use film because skiing lines is either do or die, no matter what you shoot, your gonna get something worthwhile. but, when you have a guy hiking a rail over and over again, and you use only one shot out of that, its a waste of film. i want to be more responsible with my sponsor money, and put the money i am given into something more worthwhile.

thats almost a word for word quote (dont ask me how i remember that)

breman is very good at what he does, both business wise, and with film. i support him more than any other company because ive met the dude, and he's so down to earth, and is incredibly smart. i was a little disapointed with forward, but not enough to make me regret buying it. i want to see high 5, but im broke, if anybody knows where i can get a cheap copy, let me know.

that said, i think winters is runnning his company just like every other big corporation on the planet... good business, bad business ethics. it happens, but it SHOULDNT happen, especially in a small industry where every company should be helping each other out. i think that cooperation makes the industry grow, and its sad to see a guy like wionters cant see that with all he's done for this culture. i just hope that maybe someday a company like broken radio can get enough coverage to merit seth and other big mountain riders to switch companies. it couldnt come quick enough

SM3 is my favorite movie of all time, its just too bad that msp went downhill after that, ive heard very little positive about msp since then.

First and foremost, whoever is in here to blackmail MSP or any other company, or suppert Level 1 or whatever company, please try to stick to a certain level of seriousity in your threads. Throwing out bullshit and lies wonÂ´t help anyone.

Jibtech or whoever is firing up here is very, very far from the reality, and I know (trust me, I KNOW!) that his stories are pretty far from the truth. 1242 never outsold Focused through VAS. Focused actually outsold all other titles together last year. Call Reynolds at VAS and ask, dude. Secondly I know 100% that all this bullshit from some people in here are presumptions based on other presumptions and rumours which all are way far from the truth. Stop listen to all this crap, stop posting rumours and presumptions. IÂ´m sick of all you dumbass kids who post bullshit ten times a day just to keep your post numbers up high. Why donÂ´t you rather go skiing instead of waisting your time on bullshit posts. Come on, IÂ´m not even using the f-word, and still I can manage to write a few smart words without annoying anyone. Berman can justify it all he wants, but film is better than dig. Period. And MSP does a better job of making a movie. Period. Maybe Berman has access to more of the young talent, but MSP is spending more, doing more and making more. It is a business vs. hobby kind of thing. Than again, the way MSP does business gets pretty shitty.

msp does not make a movie in any sense of the imagination. they throw together clips of progressive big mountain, wendy fisher big mountain, redneck snowmobiling, random narratives, and super slow mo park skiing. throw in a mediocre soundtrack with stolen songs, and voila...(as liam said), you have ski movie 17.

check out red tape and high 5...they are true movies. they have unifying themes, and everything works together. msp always lacks that cohesiveness, and their movies go on forever.

Please Explain: If 1242 didn't outsell Focused then why was VAS going to give the cover of their catalog (a space that has always been taken by MSP) to PBP?

VAS doesn't just do that because they are nice. They do it because they want to promote whats selling the most. It makes them more money.

This irritates me so much. Here we are on a newschool skiing site... and this is what half the poeple think... half the people still would rather watch the shittiest movie on the planet... MSP,

MSP is not cool, nothing they have ever made is cool, they had brad holmes rapping in a movie... that was not cool... putting stuff in a million times slow mo is not cool

MSP does not make anythign good for the industry... their movies are terrible.

It just makes me so mad that people on a newschool site can diss bermans movies... when they are on a completely different level... like its ridiculous... it makes you want to say fuck you skiing because most of the people don't even care about the sport... like open your eyes guys... if you want skiing to be on the same level as other action sports you need to do something... we need better movies... and we can do it..

like have you seen any snowboard movie from this year? is it just coincidence that all of them are able to do something right? no... they know what they are doing because they have the support of all the snowboarders and movies like love/hate, promo copy, moment of truth, and all the other ones can rise up... beacuse people are so stoked on them...

if you are a newschool skier, buy high five, there are 40 000 people on this site or more... I can't see why 3/4 of them wouldn't buy high five... if you have to buy one movie buy high five... it is the best jib flick.

pbp hasn't been so hot lately but I have a feeling they are goign to turn around with the c crew productions... so, I'll wait on that...

But this site has the potential to do something... and that is change the way movies are made... berman is on the right path, msp is not, pbp is in the upper middle, and the smaller companies will soon rise up and be on the level with berman... but until then...

support your industry, newschool skiing, if you are a newschool skier, please for the sake of the future of our sport... don't buy msp... they are not what we want to be recoganized by, they don't properly display what newschool skiing is about...

Please for the industry don't buy Berman's jibflicks anymore. If you care about the industry we don't want to reward them when they make a movie with the same two jumps and a bunch of stupid rails. The only thing good about high five is the soundtrack, everything else just seems like people 'Acting'.
