I am going to head up to lutsen on march 24th, do you think they will get any pow there? Whats the Minnesota snow conditions like? Will it snow this late in march?? Also, does lusten have any good backcountry?
Ehh, go to Mount Bohemia in the UP. I'm going to lutsen this weekend so I'll post back in this thread how it is but that late in March I wouldn't count on any pow conditions.
Mount Bohemia is really the only place worth going in the midwest. Lutsen has a very little bit of off-piste stuff but nothing that could be considered backcountry. Blackjack has a little as well, and Whitecap has a fair amount. Whitecap actually has a few really nice ungroomed runs. But Mount Bohemia is better than a lot of places in the mountains, it has no competition at all in the midwest. All ungroomed, trees, bumps, cliffs.
At Lutsen, the run "Kit" on moose mountain kind of has a pillow line if there's powder, but only count on that if there's a major snowstorm. I've been on that run in late march and I had to take my skis off and climb down because there wasn't any snow after the drops (all rocks and stumps).
