Ok, so I haven't been on ski's for over 15 years. I switched to a board when I was 12 and decided I want to go back to skiing. I've narrowed down my choice to the Line Chronics but I keep getting conflicted answers on the length. I'm 5'11 and I'm 175lbs. Someone said I should ride the 178 version and someone else said I should ride the 171 version. Most recently another person said I should ride the 164 version. Being as none of the people ever rode the ski I'm turning to you guys to help me out. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!
I should add that I'll be doing more All Mountain riding than park, when I do any park riding it'll only be to hit some jumps. I'm gonna mainly be just screwing around and not bombing any hills really.
Even though you havn't been on skis in a long time, I would say get at least the 171. They have some tip and tail rocker so they will ski slightly shorter and 171 is already on the shorter side for someone 5'11 (I'm the same height and ride 184's). Even a pair of the 178's will be doable, they'll take a little to get used to their length after not being on skis in a long time, but in the long run you'll appreciate the extra length especially all mountain.
the one person that said the 171 said the same thing because of the shape that it'll actually feel more like a 168 and I'm really only gonna be messing around , I'm not a park guy really. I ride east coast with the occasional week spent out west with family.
East coast glades? I've rode rockered 186cm skis out west and on the east, and they can still pivot pretty fast for the east. I'm lighter, but as tall as you. I wanted a bit more ski than the cambered 178cm chronics - if you think you're going towards center mounting at all, I'd lean towards the 178 or 185.
You don't think the 178 will be too tough on me being that it's a longer ski? Yea, east coast glades like in VT. I live in NJ so I'm limited to good area's unless I drive a couple hours. I don't want something that's gonna be a pain in tight trees, since I haven't ridden skis in over 10 years.
I would definitely go 178s even if you haven't skied in a long time. If you have been boarding and used to ski it will probably come back to you pretty quickly and then you will be happier with the longer length. Also they have some rocker so they will ski a little shorter.
Nah. It might feel long at first, but you'll get accustomed to it as you develop. Better to buy for where you will be than attempt to resell imo. And the glades thing you'll figure out as you go - I mean, yeah, your tips will be further out, but things are so much easier in glades now of days. A 178 with early rise isn't going to hold you back that much.
Man, this is getting to be a hard decision. It also doesn't help that people (not on the site) are throwing me other skis to look at like the AR7 or Panic's. I appreciate all the help you guys are giving me on here so kuddos to you guys.
