WattsUhh...because it's your country? If you can't find it in your to cheer for your home country during the world cup, you should be exiled or put down for treason.
As for America's chances, I'm going to stay optimistic. We're clearly a much better team than we were 4 years ago, and we have a real chance of beating Ghana. Portugal sans Ronaldo is not that scary, and seeing as Ronaldo keeps getting hurt and has been unable to get over his injury problems for the also month or two, chances seem good he won't be fully fit. And, well, Germany is Germany, but if they get the job done in the first two games, who knows, maybe they won't come out as strong as they otherwise would. And apart from that their build up to this world cup has been disastrous, so they may not be as good as they should.
My biggest fear is that the Ghanian witch doctor who claims responsibility for Ronaldo's injury problems will hurt the u.s. as well. Let's hope he doesn't turn his attention to us until it's already too late.

.MASSHOLE.It is where I was born yes, but I identify as German. One ancestor in my family ( my father) was born as a naturalized US citizen. Not my mother or grandparents.
Regardless, I enjoy watching the German and Spanish teams and have more of an attachment to them, which is why I support them.

fujaromeI'm in the same boat...born/live in the US but support France. That's what happens when most of your family is French and practically live in the shadow of the Stade De France. Not to mention that when I got into the sport, supporting the US was near impossible. (not that watching any matches was really possible.)
Suffice to say, 1 World Cup title and a European Championship later...it's been a good decision.
What I can't stand however are the Americans who, despite having generations worth of relatives being born/living in the US...support another team. "I'm American, but my family came from Germany 150 years ago...so I support Germany."
BakerpowLiterally my situation haha. Uncle lives in grenoble and grandmother lives in Paris. I'm over there almost every summer. But I still support the USA quite a bit. I just am not one of those american fans who thinks we can really make an impact in the world cup.

Fun_dipRonaldo will play. There's no reason to risk him in any friendlies. Everyone already knows how good he is. Also the rest of Portugal is getting overlooked. There's maybe 1 or 2 players in the US's starting lineup that could be considered better than their respective counterpart on Portugal. Yes I know games are not won on paper, but the Portugese side are much stronger than many are realizing.
WattsPortugal are definitely strong, but they aren't that scary without Ronaldo. Their defense and midfield are both very good, but besides Ronaldo they don't have anyone who is a consistent scoring threat. They make themselves very hard to beat with their defense, but aren't very good at beating teams. If Ronaldo isn't fully fit, and not playing at his best, I think the U.S. could get a result against them.

There's no doubt that a tough test awaits the USA. Not only are they outgunned by Germany and Portugal, but given their history against Ghana, the USA cannot imo even be considered the third-best team in Group G. At best, it's a dead heat to avoid the ignominy of last place — or worse, bowing out of Brazil 3-nil. But then again it's football, so who knows what happens?
It's all speculation based on past results and fictive stats anyway. And one thing the US team really seems to miss a lot is a real star player but then again, star players are no guarantee, at WC sometimes the average rise above themselves to become the stars.

ChunterI went to one of those games the other week and it was actually pretty entertaining. The amount of support and people who own Sac FC kits/scarves was crazy! I have no idea how they have such a huge fanbase but it sure is cool to see.
