We are 100 days out of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
I'm pretty excited. Even though USA is in a group of death if we can make it out we have a good shot of going beyond the first round of elimination. We've got a strong team and a good chance of doing better than any other cup.

but with how theyre playing it might not be the best soccer... although that could potentially be a 4-3 sort of game which would be awesome. messi vs neymar pretty much.
I swear there has to be a fix in the Ghana-Portugal match. look at that Ronaldo goal. No goalkeeper ever just swats the ball straight back down into his own box.

Can I just say, that waking up at 8am in Sacramento to watch a soccer game with about 2000 other people on a thursday is probably the coolest thing I've ever seen?
...I mean, there were people who had been getting plastered since 7am and they probably had work in the afternoon haha.
Oh, and in reference to the coulter bullshit, the clientele was predominantly white in one of the more diverse cities in the country. Needless to say, the USA has not only discovered this game (that was 2002 or 2010) but is now fully embracing it in the same fashion of other nations.
Sure, en-masse we aren't fully on the level, but hey.. I've met (and dated) Canadians who didn't like hockey, and I've met English who only watched Rugby and Cricket (or just hated sports)... Even if only 10-12% of this country embraces the sport like they do elsewhere, that's still the entire population of California (compare that to the populations of Holland, Belgium, and Portugal - combined) We are for real and we aren't going anywhere - the rest of the world is fucking frightened of that.
FIFA and UEFA is afraid that Europe is no longer is going to be the home of top football in the future and that USA is going to end up dominating the sport, as you do with many other sports.
My thought on the subject is that it is sad that the biggest club-tournament is the European exclusive Champions league, and that the other countries are not involved. The World Cup shows time and time again that many of the top players in non-European leagues not only match, but also pass their European-league counterparts. My wish is that something like a world-cup for football-clubs would be formed so that you could match the teams from different continents and thus evolve and make football a bigger sport in all corners of the world.

Excuse me? Where did that first sentence come from? How are they afraid? Why would they be? For FIFA it means more money and FIFA loves money.
I think you underestimate how many players actually play in Europe from the Latin American, Asian, and African teams. If I had to guess, I would say the countries that have the fewest players in Europe are actually from Africa. They may not play at the HIGHEST level (Champions League) but they play in the first or second divisions.
I also think what makes the WC special is the fact that it is one of the few times where talent is showcased globally, and that if we did it more often, it would lose its allure.
There would be other issues including financial differences between teams, qualification, scheduling, travel, etc. It would be a monumental occasion and would have to occur much like the WC , Euros, and Olympics and happen once every four years.
There were ideas thrown around that speculated a "super" league of the top European teams playing in a table but that was shot down quickly

There already is, kind of. It just isn't a particularly large tournament, and only takes the very best team from each region, instead of multiple.

Why would Altidore coming back be bad for the U.S.?
He was a little wild at times, but I'm not sure that means he's a "pussy."
I don't, personally. He always give us [USA] a good target on set pieces, as well as any form of cross. Not to mention the guy can be dangerous when he gets into open field. He just lacks the ability to create chances, which as a target man you don't always need. I think with him up top and dempsey sitting in behind, jones out left, zusi right, bradley can play holding mid and hopefully start to show his old self again.
I think he often kills what little build up play the US does have whether it be a bad touch, pass, or just a bad decision, which is why I think he's bad for them. But I guess he does make sense for set pieces and crosses especially seeing as a fuckton of goals have come from crosses this tournament. Also another plus I sort of see with him back is Davis being pushed out of the lineup.
Jones was a pussy last game. Usually he's one of the tough soccer players that I feel like everyone has to respect but last game he was on the ground so often from nothing.
From what I've seen/read with Altidore back it allows Bradley to play less attacking, which is apparently how he plays better? Not sure if there is any validity to that, but if Altidore means Bradley plays a more comfortable position, I'm okay with it.

Yeah. It's been a good game, but an extraordinary amount of time has been spent dealing with players rolling on the ground. Hard for either team to really get control when the game stops and starts so often.
Neymar may flop, but boy are his shoes shiny today.
