Dustin.I think you are focusing on the good and he is focusing the bad exclusively. Bradley plays aggressively and his output is feast or famine. His passing and pace were wily last night and against Ghana. Watch Beasley play and it's no contest. Bradley throws the team off balance and needs to slow down and control the ball. The US is very good at attacking aggressively even if it isn't pristine, but not every play is balls to the wall counter attack and I feel like he doesn't recognize it often enough. I really enjoyed watching Beasley play last night, dude set the pace for the entire team when he controlled it on the outsides. I'd like to see Bradley slow down a little and control the ball. I think the team would do better and he would score as well.
Those two mistakes were inexcusable though, you can't brush them away. One was a mistake he shouldn't have made, but the other was just undisciplined, stupid play.
I don't think I'm focusing on the good exclusively. Like I said, he did make a few big mistakes and was inaccurate at times and can certainly play better. I just think it's harsh, and very incorrect, to say he was straight up "terrible."
I definitely agree about wishing Bradley would slow the game down sometimes. There were a few times where he hit through balls (which were normally very good passes in and of themselves) to Dempsey when he was 1 on 3 or 1 on 4 with the Portuguese defense when I was thinking it would be better to hold the ball and get it our wide and wait for the whole team to push forward. He does do it sometimes, when he gives the ball sideways or backwards to Jones or Beckerman, or even out wide, but not often enough. Problem last night was Dempsey was so good that a lot of the times I'd be shaking my head at Bradley going forwards so quickly, Clint would be earning a corner, at which point it's hard to fault the pass too much.
But on the whole I definitely wish the triangle of Beckerman, Jones, Bradley was more focused on possession than counter attacking at times. I think part of the problem is that the u.s. isn't really good enough yet to beat teams with a possession, slow build up style of play yet, and their best chance of creating good chances is that gung ho style of play, which Bradley definitely realizes, and so tries to exploit to a fault.
