2014 FIFA World Cup

We are 100 days out of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

I'm pretty excited. Even though USA is in a group of death if we can make it out we have a good shot of going beyond the first round of elimination. We've got a strong team and a good chance of doing better than any other cup.

My best guess is they added a minute because we were taking so long with that sub.

Loss by 1 or 2 goals with a Portuguese win by less than 2 goals

Loss by 1-2 goals with a draw

Loss with Ghana win by 1 goal.

Is that correct? For example the "Loss with Ghana win by 1 goal" doesn't seem right because that would put both teams at 4 points in the group with a 0 goal differential. USA would go through based on our win over Ghana. I think there are mistakes in there unless I'm missing something.

Great showing by both sides, but the USA attack really stood out to me. Yedlin was the spark we needed, but the lack of man marking in the last ten seconds of the game was the dagger.

The bar I was at tonight was absolutely nuts, though. We're an AO official soccer bar now, can't quite put numbers down for how many were there, enough to drown out my vuvuzela after both goals... very cool environment, especially to be seeing something like that in the middle of Montana.

Anyways, we've still got a good chance of advancing, so "keep believing"

The top three are correct.

If Ghana loses by less than 5 and we lose by 1, Portugal won't go through on goal differential.

If Ghana and Portugal tie, well, self explanatory.

The last is the one I am scared of. The US can only lose by 1 goal, with the Ghanians only winning 1-0, that sets the US at 0 goal differential and Ghana as well. Therefore, I believe it, it moves to goals scored, where the US and Ghana would be tied if the US do not score. Then, it moves to head to head record, where the US prevails.

tie breakers are based on total goal differential in the group, not goal differential between the tied teams. if the total differential is tied, it is determined by greatest amount of total goals.

the rules in their entirety here.

"The ranking of each team in each group shall be determined as follows:

a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;

b) goal difference in all group matches;

c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.



If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria, their rankings shall be determined as follows:

d) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the

teams concerned;

e) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams

concerned;

f) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams"
