We are 100 days out of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
I'm pretty excited. Even though USA is in a group of death if we can make it out we have a good shot of going beyond the first round of elimination. We've got a strong team and a good chance of doing better than any other cup.
I wouldn't say England have been great first half, looking at the defence mainly. I personally think Baines has looked poor both games.

I've only seen the replay once, but i'm pretty sure he challenged with Cavani for the header so I'm not sure how the ball going through to Suarez isn't somewhat his fault. Maybe not entirely his fault, the defenders should have been expecting it to come over just as Suarez obviously was.

Just seen the replay again, looking at it now it does seem unfair of me to criticize/blame Gerrard for the goal, looks like Cavani's jump for the ball put him off more than anything and Suarez was in the right place at the right time.
So, sounds like the referee was horrid, but England was not up to the task either. Sounds like Rooney was off in the first half, while Sterling, Sturridge, and Welbeck were a hit or miss depending on the moment.

Referee wasn't great, but didn't make any major errors either. I think people are mostly complaining that Godin could have gotten a second yellow for a high arm on Sturridge when holding him off, but the call really could have gone either way.
England controlled the game after Uruguay got their first goal, and easily could have scored 2 or 3 more goals if their finishing was a little better. They looked like the better team for most of the game, so I have no idea why people keep saying their were horrible.

Yeah, both or Uruguay's goals came from mental errors/laziness, but offensively I thought they were fine. Lacked a final ball a few times I guess, but still created plenty of good scoring chances for Sturridge and Rooney. Second half was much better than the first for them, though. Still, they weren't terrible by any means.

This was it for me right here. Blown calls/missed calls, just overall inconsistency by the ref. It was frustrating to watch.
I personally thought the shot to the neck should've drawn a yellow (2nd yellow), but that is based on the overall ref'ing of the tournament so far. We've seen people get cards for much less.
England definitely had a fire under their ass during the second half. If Rooney would've had a better free kick/shot on goal in the first half, this game would've had a much different result. Tough luck for England though.

As a Leeds and England fan, you probably don't watch a lot of good soccer, so I'll kindly let you know that trying to pass the ball on the ground to your teammates instead of playing with 8 defenders and then just sticking the two biggest guys you can find in the street before the game up top and kicking the ball all the way up the field to them and hoping they can get it in the net while the 8 defenders watch does not mean they played badly. In fact, most of the world would consider the game England played today pretty good.

when you see a guy rushing down a wing and a defender misses the sliding tackle , it's so annoying to see the attacker jump to the ground and act as if his leg had just blown up when if he had kept running he would have had a clear lane untill the box.

Some known embellishers (Ronaldo, Suarez, Ribery, Robben, Ashley Young, Neymar, etc) do have a tough time getting calls when it seems dubious, but it still is not enough.
I think referees need to be stricter about giving a yellow for diving. It is way too lenient now, and if someone got an early yellow for diving, it may set a tone. Additionally, add a fucking fine in for diving, even if it was not called. $1000, $10,000, something.

More enforcement for diving would be awesome, but consistency on the part of the ref is the only thing that truly matters. It only takes one ref to start setting a standard and this game could be entirely different.
I agree that a fine would be a good motivator, but how would that be effectively implemented into this game? There are no replays or appeals of calls. Would fines be handed out after the match has been analyzed by an unbiased third party for any faults or missed calls on behalf of the ref and linesmen?
