With so many awesome pieces of gear out there nowadays, it's hard not to get stoked and feel the pinch of the gear monkey when you poke around places like tacklewarehouse.com or even your local Gander/Cabela's/Dick's. From rods to reels to baits and lines, boats to fishfinders... It never stops getting better it seems!



So what are you looking at right now and planning on picking up at some point or maybe just dreaming about? C'mon it's healthy to get it out there.


For me currently it's got to be thus:

-7'2" MH 13 Fishing Omen Green casting rod w/ a Lew's Tournament MG speed spool (Left handed) casting reel in a 7.1:1 ratio. That way I can have one really nice super sensitive spin setup and one more burly high speed casting setup for cranking and frogs without breaking the bank on the latter.

-I would also love to (but doubt I'll be able to afford anytime soon) upgrade my kayak to a Ride 115X. It's amazingly well thought out and has a far better seat and seating position for fishing than my current sit-in. You can also stand up AND have a full sized cooler onboard and that is fucking awesome. The console also allows a super clean fishfinder install unlike anything else on the market. I want one of these things so damn bad I can taste it. Mmmmmmmm... Plasticky!

I've been on tacklewarehouse snooping around every day... its killing me haha. But i'm planning on dropping big time dinero this spring once I graduate and am done paying rent and all that bullshit.

Minnkota maxxum 80lb thrust and a troll well for the foot pedal so I can fish all day without my bad knees hurting. Need a more powerful and 24 volt trolling motor so it can last all day in tourneys.

Haha I know. I just have to get through this one time (hopefully) painful spending spree, then i'll be set for a while.

And yes, I will be the happiest man on this planet when my boat is all tricked out. I love that thing more than anything else

Wow so I went kind of next level gear whore yesterday.


I posted a link in the OP about the Bettencourt rodent which is basically a big handmade muskrat/mouse/rat surface squarebill surface crank and they look awesome but with those big treble hooks you can't throw them anywhere near heavy cover without an ordeal developing. So I was poking around on YouTube watching videos of this bait on my lunchbreak and I saw a video of something from Bettencourt that I had never even heard of- a scum rodent version. It's a weedless version of the crankbait but with a soft body and double frog-type hooks but with the same fur, shape and tail of the original rodent.


So I looked around and couldn't find a single word about them except for the manufacturer's YouTube video. Naturally amped up on finding the perfect version of this bait that I already liked for the type of fishing I am usually doing, I wanted to find them. Nothing anywhere though, so I sent an email to Bettencourt in the hopes of finding a way to buy one.


Heard back this morning.

1). They never made another one after that single one made for the video
2). Accidentally listed the video with no intentions of making them anytime soon
3). Still willing to make me one
4). Gave me extra options for color I've never seen available before


So yeah. One-off scum rodent inbound in 4-6 weeks.

I'm finally getting back into fishing and have been gear-whoring it up trying to restock my tackle and seek out a new spinning rod/reel. Finding the perfect spinning rod has proved itself more challenging than I originally anticipated, but I am enjoying the search. I have yet to even look at reels too deeply. Things have certainly changed since I purchased my last spinning rod/reel.

Coming from MN, the fishing here in WA is quite a bit different. So I've been doing a tremendous amount of research to get my tackle situated for trout and salmon instead of the northern pike and bass that I grew up fishing. Looking forward to getting some new shit and out on the water soon!

Hey if anybody is looking for a rod I just learned of a KILLER sale on Shimano Crucials at DSG. Went down and sure enough, Crucials are already discounted down to $120 from their original $160 and then are another 25% off the discount price. I got a 7'2" MHXF casting rod for $89! Fuck yeah!!

Rods, reels, and combos should be 25% off their clearance prices. That's only clearance items that end with .47 or .97 cent endings. I believe line, terminal, and lures are 50% off clearance prices too. Happy hunting! I may have to go back and check out the terminal section a little better later on if I have time. I was so jazzed on the rod I kind of ran out like I stole it or something haha

Im wanting a new rod for deep football head jigs and flipping/pitching. Looking for something in the 7'3" - 7'6" range in Heavy Fast or XFast.

Thinking about the St. Croix Rage, Abu Garcia Veracity, Quantum Smoke (never used a quantum rod before) and new Shimano Crucial (really want), but the crucial doesnt come out till 8/30. Any other recommendations/ideas?

I just impulse bought four ( yes 4) abu REVO STX reels. 3 in 7.1:1 and 1 in 6.4:1. I dont even have 1 extra baitcasting rods laying around haha. I might be selling some of my other reels if anyone is interested

Ya, $80 each and were used for 1/2 a season. Found em on ebay but I hate buying used reels without seeing them first. Looked at where he was from and he lives 45 min away haha

As for HXF, there is probably none I'm more lusty for than the Dobyns Champion 735C. It's listed as a MH but it's not according to the line and bait ratings- which means it's likely lighter in weight than comparable H rods as well. I got my crucial as a replacement frog/jig/heavy weighted worm rod for my Omen Green and while it's awesome, it's not heavy enough for frogs and heavy cover. I'm thinking of selling my crucial and upgrading to the 735 actually.


I'm heading towards a 3 rod system right now.

One MXF finesse jig & light plastic rod
One MHF cranking/spinner/vibration bait rod
One HXF heavy jig/mag weighted worm/frog rod

I'd love more of course but that's my most basic plan right now. I've got some shit I need to get rid of and some shit I need to swap for other shit. You could call it a shitshow I guess.

Im really hopin I can get that deal on the st croix, its a $270 rod and that will be my heavy. But ya depending if you count overall or just what ill carry in the boat, ill have a 6 or 9 rod system going
