RedPandaAnyone done the Big Man on Campus program on bodybuilding.com? I'm a complete beginner to working out and was wondering if this would be a good place to start
-emile-bread pastas and potatoes
but everytime I eat bread or pizza I feel bloated , same with fruit juices.
I fucking hate drinking water though , no idea why , but that's what I drink ...
cobra_commanderdifferent people have different responses to gluten. To assume dropping it will enhance someone's life is a big stretch.
My body has not issue digesting gluten products. Everyone is different. I like to eat a danish or pastry 30min before I lift.

zzzskizzzbread pasta pizza and potatoes. You're trying to cut, seriously man?
ABallsI had some Chinese food this morning which was probably awful for me but then I cleaned it up with an omelette but then ruined that with the pieces of toast. The omelette came after the hour and 30 minutes at the gym so i figure I'm ok at that point and then I had a 60g protein shake mixed with 2 scoops of ice cream. Pretty sure i also had a banana today along with a ton of water and some Gatorade plus a clif bar or two. So how is that diet experts? Its not the best but I think i did ok.
californiagrownDo Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe. the PDF is a free download if you just google search for 1 minute. It is THE BEST beginner program bar none. If you read the book and spend a few months doing the program you will A) become much, much stronger and fitter looking, and B) just as importantly learn how to correctly do all the foundational movements that all decent programs are based off of.
-benedettoUnless I got carried away and he's not trying to cut that much..in that case, whatever. I'll copy and paste my response when someone ask about losing serious weight.
RedPandaYeah from what I've been reading and whatnot this seems to be the generally accepted best place to start. I'm just sorta struggling because the gym I have access to at this point doesn't have barbells.. it's sort of like a hotel gym. Hopefully I can do some convincing and get my parents to get our membership back at this rec center that we used to have that has a legit gym.
juicedrummer11i did that one. i liked it a bunch but you don't really mix up the workout at all over the 12 weeks so you really gotta push yourself when it comes to the weight your doing. i noticed a lot of solid results with that one. the back and bicep day and shoulders and legs were all awesome workouts. i was a big fan of the diet too. its pretty easy to follow and gets you off to a good start
really as long as you stick with any one of those workout plans and stay dedicated you will notice significant results.
californiagrownchi-fucking-nese for breakfast...seriously?
An omlette post workout would be okay, but im sure you loaded it with cheese, meat, and used a lot of butter.
After you went to make a protein shake...but realized that you could still see your toes(onley reason i can think of why you included ice cream), so you added 2 fucking scoops of ice cream??? christ, youre not this stupid are you?
and then threw in a couple clif bars, gatorade and a banana..cough extra 1000 calories...cough.
Awful diet. dude, this isnt hard. you were taught a small amount about what are healthy foods, and what the food pyramid looks like in elementary school. try and put some of that knowledge into action.
Unless, this is your last meal before your diet. in whcih case, sounds good...droool.
What you could have had instead:
breakfast- big bowl of "healthy adult type" cereal with fresh berries, and 3-4 scrambled eggs(use as little butter as possible, i personally hate cooking sprays)
Mid morning - cup of yogurt, piece of fruit
Lunch - turkey grilled cheese(or panini type sandwhich) with some sauteed veggies(use olive oil and season with garlic powder and salt- brocolli, kale etc)
Pre workout - small bowl of unflavored oatmeal with berries, and a little peanut butter. sip 20gram protein shake.
post workout - 20 gram protein shake, candy bar(or something for your sweet tooth.
Dinner - turkey sausage, 1 small sauteed potatoe, sauteed veggies.
desert - yogurt and berries.
Use common sense(kinda worried about this with you) with your portion control, and adjust it as you go. Just because you feel hungry doesnt mean you need to eat. And just because you are not hungry doesnt mean you dont need tto eat. food is a tool and the end product will show what kind of tools you used.

StoseThis might be a dumb question but how do you find the diet?
louie.miragsI like a lot of what ya said buy scratch the processed candy bar after the gym. Your body needs real sugar. Have a bananna or orange.
californiagrownthe fastest possible digesting carb is good to spike insulin levels immidiatley after a workout. this is one of those "5%-10% of your results, while the fundamentals provide the other 95%" thing so its not really all that important. what it does do, and why i mentioned it is to allow for a cheat meal/mental break. And honestly, even that diet is fairly strict. I just offered up some example meals becuase that guy is so clueless as to what is considered healthy. I mean, the dude wants to lose weight and thinks adding 2 scoops of ice cream to his protein shakes, and eating leftover chinese for breakfast is a good idea!
ABallsI'm in fucking high school so keeping an excellent routine is tough because of my schedule.
ABallsI'll go shopping tonight. Some of the "healthy" foods in my house aren't too healthy apparently. Thank you for the list at the end. If it makes it any better it was low fat ice cream and just two spoon scoops.
.AR6rider.This is pretty much the easiest your schedule will ever be.
ABallsGod I'm getting shit on in here. I meant for my eating schedule.
ABallsGod I'm getting shit on in here. I meant for my eating schedule.
.AR6rider.Dude, come on. You post asking for advice on cutting, then come back and ask how you're doing by eating pizza, ice cream, Chinese food, muffins, etc. What did you expect? People have given you plenty of advice. You need to decide whether you actually want to get cut up or just be a typical high school kid. If it was easy, every guy would be walking around with a 6 pack.
Make a list for your mom of foods you want to eat. I can almost guarantee she comes back from the store with shit like frozen pizza, ice cream, mini tacos, tater tots, and all that other (excellent tasting) garbage because you ask for it or she thinks you want it, not because she sits around eating it. If it really is the case that your parents order Chinese food and pizza for dinner every night, just eat less of it and try not to make a habit of eating tons of leftovers. Two slices of pizza won't kill you, but if you're eating 6 slices and washing it down with a Coke, then eating the rest of the pizza the next day for breakfast/lunch, then yeah...that's bad.
-benedettoYou ask, you shall receive. Bunch of people jumping to help..
ABallsYou guys are right. I'll try and follow that plan for a few weeks and see how I do. My lunch just consisted of a salad with carrots, jalapeños, and Italian dressing but not too much. I also had a water, an apple, and a small bowl of Cheerios with milk because I was ridiculously hungry. The salad wasn't as filling as I had hoped.
hey-dude-its-mesaw my first guy wearing yoga pants over the weekend. ridiculous
.MASSHOLE.Anyone here do the 5/3/1 Program?
Tryin to increase my PRs of 245 bench, 345 DL, 270 squat, and 170 overhead press.
Currently sitting at 5'11 fluctuating between 178-181lbs but I would prefer to cut down to 170-175 with a low BF content.

ABallsBro I'm not retarded, it was spoon fulls and it's not that bad. I was being lazy and had Chinese in the morning, obviously that's terrible for me but I ate it so whatever. I'm in fucking high school so keeping an excellent routine is tough because of my schedule. I'm going shopping tonight and I'll grab some of the foods you suggested. I'm starting to shop for myself but it's tough not having my own car and not having a decent weekly income. Anyways, thank you for your advice.
saskskierI've got two pairs of Lululemon pants (one is more like straight up sweatpants and the other are the softer, stretchy fabric Lululemon uses. Neither are tights). Most comfortable pants I own.
I also lift in tights sometimes (but usually when I know I'll have the gym to myself). Tights stay keeps the legs warm, helps avoid ripping my shins on cleans/snatches and doesn't get caught or bunch up like sweats.
Hating on men wearing Lululemon or other yoga pants was great 5 years ago, but now it just makes you look like an idiot.
cobra_commanderYawn...
There are so many different ways to eat 'clean.' I know people who would shred caligrown's 'clean' diet to bits for various reasons.
People who obsess over eating 'clean' are fucking obnoxious. I ate a pastry today, it was fucking great. I put butter in my coffee, because its good for you and I like the taste.
if you want to loose weight, calories in vs calories out. Figure the two out. If you want to concentrate on fat burn, reduce usable carb (yes, sweet potatoes too) intake and add natural fatty foods (like butter, and whole milk), while slightly bumping protein intake. This has been proven to work. I don't suggest it long term however.
That said, Telling a hs to worry too much about what he eats is fucking dumb. Probably better to focus on improving the exercise component.
Building some muscle will do you more in the long term than shedding a few pounds today.

hey-dude-its-mereally? I would say that taking any hobby that seriously makes you look a lot more like an idiot than the normal people at the gym. Im sure everyone is very impressed when you walk in with your tights and your personal barbell lol

TijmenDalAlso: can anyone tell me if it's bad if I stand on the front of my toes when I deadlift? When I'm doing light(er) deadlifts I've got good form, but when I'm lifting heavier stuff I tend to 'pull' myself forwards (towards the bar) and I automatically end up leaning forward (for the beginning of the lift).
I'm really tall and I also do sumo deadlifts (and prefer those) and I don't have any trouble with those.
TijmenDalHoly fuck... That's ridiculous.
I've only just started going to the gym in the last two months (liking it so far) and those are some serious numbers. How long did it take for you to get there?

louie.miragsI dig the unsaltedbutter and coconut in the coffee... love the healthy fats. We're not just telling the high schooler what to eat, he asked.
ABallsGot another question. I've been eating the same amount of food but everything has been low carb high protein (I've been following what CaliforniaGrown recommended pretty closely and it's been hard) anyways, are there any healthy fillers? I'm just super fucking hungry.
