cobra_commanderYeah, sure, but the point is I have no real idea what my 1RM is, but have been consistently getting stronger. Yawn. Whatever I don't really care. I'm just trying to be bigger, stronger, faster and more explosive, not compete with barbell. I have been accomplishing my goals with only lifting 'heavy' twice a week and running up to 30 miles a week, and now skiing 2-3 times a week.
I'm not that strong compared to most powerlifters, weight lifters or strongmen, and wouldn't bother competing. I don't care, most of them die young anyway.
saskskierJust in case anyone is interested in some ridiculous weightlifting (and likely new world records), the men's 77kg A session is going to start in about 10-15 minutes.

Lu Xiaojun is going to destroy everyone...
mirozJeebus...dat back. So fucking low on that snatch (?)
Had a good squat day on Friday and a good chest day today. Goin for another good leg day tomorrow.
cobra_commanderThe whole 'cardio' kills your gains is just folks being lazy. Having a good cardiovascular health makes getting stronger easy.
As my body has adapted to the higher volume of running, my ability to handle volume in the weight room and recover has improved significantly.
I use a calculated max, much like everyone else who gets strong. Sure my initial maxes I started using over a year ago were based on a recent 3RM, but I have just adjusted it since. I got plenty strong plenty fast. Sure faster than the folks who were lifting at higher percentages than I do, and not running.
Funny how I stopped reading T-Nation, EliteFTS, bodybuilding.com and started listining to guys who are actually strong and actually run, leaned out my programming and boom I started to get strong.
No, my numbers aren't that high, and have a couple friends who are in the 700 and 7 club (700 or more DL, sub 7:00 mile) and both are also in the 600/6 club (squat/mile) but I'm not there yet. The nature of our life requires that we stay in good shape, and can't just get as big as we like.
californiagrown...but running just fucking sucks to do. Fuck. That.
Id rather do a sport or activity that has a payoff for the sufferfest.
saskskierLu is ridiculous and his back is glorious. That said, while he went for a snatch world record (177kg at 77kg body weight), he missed it and then bombed (didn't make any lifts) in the c+j. Pretty big shocker.

MALEPRIVILEGEhow much do you weigh? How many miles do you run a day? Are you always training for a marathon?
I don't believe a word you say. Very very few people can DL 700 pounds and almost all of them don't run 30 miles a week. A 7:00/mile isn't that fast. Cardio training and endurance training are not the same thing.
You are a troll.
californiagrownAnd you are an idiot who has very little faith in the human body.
Ever thought that some people don't give a shit about maximizing gainz in da jym? They'd rather pursue their own set of goals?
MALEPRIVILEGESo wait you are arguing against utilizing your time in the gym as efficiently as possible? And I'm the idiot?
there are a lot of people who spend way too much time In the gym and if they trained smarter, would see better results with less frequency. Training for a half marathon (30+ Miles/week) and putting up big numbers on squat and DL is unheard of and completely counterproductive. Nobody does both at the same time for long periods of time. Get educated bro.
"Hybrid" athletes like Alex Viada have never been able to squat over 600 and run a sub 5:00/mile during the same period of time. He did it in the same year but that required 2 separate "periods" of training. He trained to rin THEN he trained to lift. At the end of his lifting period he could not still run a sub 5:00/mile
Unless cobra commander is actually Alex Viada, I'm calling bullshit. I don't even believe he has friends.
cobra_commanderFunny how 'running up to 30 miles a week'
Turned into 'running 30 miles each week'
Most weeks are around 20 miles:
Monday: Upper Body Strength + 20 min slow run (2.5-3mi)
Tuesday: Lower body strength + Intervals (2-5 miles total)
Wednesday: 20-40 min tempo run (3-6miles) and or skiing (touring or resort)
Thursday: Upper Body Work Capacity and Hypertrophy and skiing (touring or resort)
Friday: Lower Body Work Capacity and Hypertrophy + Fartlek run (4-6 miles) or ruck (6-10 miles)
Saturday: Pizza Donuts Dark Beer and GO HUSKIES!!!!
Sunday: ski tour / 45-80min LSR / 90-180min ruck
Obviously I reduce my lower body training volume in the winter if I am skiing up to three days a week. Sometime eliminating the Friday weight training.
Anyways, you can see how there is a lot of auto regulation built into my programming with regards to the run intensity and volume. Most weeks are generally going to be closer to 20 miles of running a week.
My strength goals are to be decently big and strong but have no desire to compete, I just like not running into shit where my strength is a limiting factor. Running and being good at it is however mandatory for my life. Outside of still being the standard for physical fitness, it leads to better overall health. Nothing like watching powerlifters I know get out of breath walking up a flight of stairs. Excellent cardiovascular health and strength endurance has saved my life before.
Plus, it's always fun watching doctors when they see my low 30s resting heart rate.
I also don't worry too much about eating outside of my diet, although actually listining to some nutritionists and following the RP templates with regards to carb/fat balancing and meal timing has allowed me to push higher levels of training as to opposed to when I just ate food.
dmskiQuestion for those working on knee/leg strength for the season. Ran across this and seemed like an interesting body weight/conditioning workout. Anyone have any opinions on this? I'm looking to incorporate some of these movements into the running days.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKnP88kWTKA
dmskihaha yeah probably a good idea. Their setup is 16 reps, 10 exercises, 3 sets of each.
Modified jump squats+russian twists
agility dots+tricep dips
high knee step overs+single leg lateral hops
single leg forward/back hops+3 point squats with weight
low squat jump twists+lunge with kettle bell upper rotation
californiagrownI heard that UW is installing a new FieldTurf at Husky stadium made from recycled cardboard. Yeah, I guess the AD realized that the team is much better on paper...
Fuck the huskies.
cobra_commanderAll freshman and sophomores, next few years...
californiagrownWhattaya call a hot girl on the UW campus?
A visitor :)

mirozTurned out the gym closed at 6 today, so getting there at 5 meant I had to rush to squeeze in my sets. Only took about ~2 min rest between sets on the last three of five. I actually got a cramp from lifting...lol. My form was questionable on the last set but I managed to hammer out out a 5x8 at 275 before the gym closed. Ready to up the weight!

Crispy. It's amazing how quickly my priorities change once skiing starts.
Usually it's
School
Gym
Food
Sleep
Reading for enjoyment.
Now it is
School tied with skiing
Gym
Sleep
Food
californiagrownThat's a good thing IMO. Never utilizing that hard work in the gym is a waste of the time spent.
Lifting weights doesn't make you an athlete, to keep your athleticism from atrophying you need to pursue athletic activities with a similar rigor to lifting weights.
cobra_commanderIf you don't follow Nikeweightlifting on Instagram you are missing out.
saskskierIt's been gold lately, but I think the one with the dude fainting to Adele some of his best work.
Also, Reza's 263.5kg c+j world record was broken today by Alexi Lovchev... Only up .5kg to 264kg, but still an 11 year old record. Also, it was an 16kg jump from his second to third attempt, which is insane.

MeapDude, his left arm is on the verge of snapping the wrong way... Im like, oh please god dont snap his arm :'(
Pretty sick lift indeed
RedPandaStill have to wait until mid December to find out if I actually have another hernia.. Debating just starting back at the gym since I haven't had any pain in a couple weeks.
mirozAll you lazy fucks have been skipping your workouts for the holidaze!
loopieSo fucking tired of going to commercial gyms and just dealing with the bullshit. Should I:
A) Buy a downhill mtn bike (been racing for a few years now, love it)
B) Start a home gym in my garage (barbell / weld power rack / random accessories)
Unfortunately both is not an option.
Crispy. If you love mtn biking, I'd go with that one. If you get a gym in your garage, you're also going to want to keep up with some cardio. Without a mountain bike, you're best option would probably be running, and a lot of people hate doing that. With the bike, you're able to get cardio and leg strength which I believe are healthier options with less risk of injury than getting JACKED AF .
californiagrownyoure saying DH mountain biking is less dangerous than something? huh.
Im gonna have to disagree on that haha.
