_Fluffy_Were there only 4 competitors?
idk if there are any personal training certs you can pass in a weekend unless you already have a bachelors in physiology or sports science. If there are it's not going to help snag a legitimate job. They all cost a decent amount of money as well so you are talking out of your ass if you think can just take an online quiz and be certified.
I have no beef with crossfit. So what if they can't run, Olympic lifters probably can't run very well either, at least not laterally. Arnold would probably run an 8 second 40 for all we know. Nick Diaz competes in Iron man competitions and probably cant bench much more than 225.
Crossfit is its own beast and people who excel at crossfit are crossfitters and nothing else. I'd take Rich Froning in a Thai fight any day of the week but there is no way i could ever keep up with him in crossfit (obviously)
Can we all just stop flexing and trying to compare one discipline to another and support each other?
_Fluffy_why won't you answer my question? does it feel good to literally and figuratively look down on everyone?
6'4" 205? you were probably a beanpole your entire life.
S.J.WIf you actually look at the thread I was mistaken about the form part and admitted I was wrong when California corrected me... but whatever
S.J.W. But care to actually post your results, anyone can bullshit on the internet about their results but takes another type of person to back it up with pictures of said results.
S.J.WLike I said take what I said with a grain of salt and if cross fit is working for you then stick to it. Which it obviously is. But care to actually post your results, anyone can bullshit on the internet about their results but takes another type of person to back it up with pictures of said results.

here you go. If it wasn't obvious, i am Ben Whitney. I finished 4th of all 94kg lifters and 20th in all weight-classes by Total and Age Sinclair. This is from a spreadsheet I made to analyze the strength/weight ratios of the average and top lifters.

BenWhiti retract my previous sentiment about everyone being nice to each other. let the bloodbath begin.
californiagrownI though you had gone full vegan eating, koombaya singing, french flag waving surrender monkey soft!
Harden the fuck up, eat some chalk, sniff some ammonia caps, and see if you can lift something as heavy as that mother in law of mine!
mirozPeople have started coming in here and acting like what they know is the only way, or what they know is best across the board. Everyone is different, in goals, level, needs, and constraints, and no one diet/method/split/etc works for all.
BenWhit
JayDopewhat really pissed me off yesterday was this kid doing a crossfitt workout in a non-crossfitt gym, he was all over the fucking place, we have a cage squat rack with a 9ft pull up bar, he was using the pull up bar for those stupid fucking butterfly pull ups, after i finished my dynamic warm up he still wasnt done doing whatever the fuck it was. I think i waited roughly 10 min to use the squat rack, THANKS CROSSFITT!
californiagrownI dream of a day where i can go to a gym that has a whole wall of racks. A WHOLE FREAKIN WALL!!
it'd be glorious.
I looked into crossfit gyms in my area to see if i could just go to open gym hours. A) they all only have open gym on sundays and B) they are all over $120/month WTF!!!
I just want the Washington State Rec Center back. fuck.
JayDopeYeah my old colleges athletic gym was insane, Olympi lifting stations in the middle probably 10 of them and then they had 10 racks just lined up, I had a lot of courses in there. That kid yesterday just really pissed me off "yeah I'm doing pull ups, I'll be done in about 4 min" no, no you're not doing pull ups
_Fluffy_Was he doing this?
https://www.newschoolers.com/videos/watch/782709/Kipping-Pull-up-Concepts
its almost impossible to not smile when you see someone "kipping"
californiagrownKipping pullup is a different exercise than a pullup. A pushpress is a different exercise than an overhead press etc.
They are all legit movements with their own specific technique. But too many people think theyre the same movements as their non-momentum using original exercise.
Folks who are good at kipped pullups are pretty impressive to watch IMO.
JayDopeWhat actually is the purpose of this?

BenWhitdevelop anaerobic work capacity and maintain intensity in the upper body, more specifically, upper body pulling. It is very easy to develop the push in the upper body using any variety of weighted presses. It is not as easy, however, to develop that same capacity in pulling movements like the chest to bar pull-up and ring/bar muscle-up. Are they conventional exercises? absolutely not, but the origin of the kipping movement is gymnastics. gymnasts use the kip to bring themselves into positions of support over the bar/rings. They are by no means a sculpting or muscle-building exercise, but you can not feasibly press in high volume everyday without also pulling in some capacity, lest you develop an imbalance. Like Cobra said, most gyms/athletes do not take the time to understand the stress this movement places on the shoulder girdle. Using systems like the Crossover-Symmetry iron-scap protocol, among others, will help develop and strengthen the muscles in the shoulder girdle that are not necessarily primary movers.
_Fluffy_Of course you guys support kipping...
anything kipping can accomplish strict pull ups can accomplish. It's a pointless movement because it relies so heavily on momentum. its shoulder impingement waiting to happen.
This is so much more respectable than the shit they do in Crossfit.
BenWhitwrong. you cannot maintain intensity at volume with strict pull-ups.
S.J.WOr with anything
BenWhitwrong. you cannot maintain intensity at volume with strict pull-ups.
_Fluffy_Then go to the cable pull down machine and do 100 reps or row 5000 meters. Kipping is surely not a revolutionary exercise changing the way people improve muscle endurance in the upper body...
A kipping pull up is not at all the same as a muscle up on olympic rings. a muscle up on olympic rings is infinitely harder than kipping like a dieing fish to do 50 half ass pull ups.
BenWhiti retract my previous sentiment about everyone being nice to each other. let the bloodbath begin.
BenWhitlisten, man. I don't shit all over thai boxing despite the fact that i give zero fucks about you, your piss poor strength numbers, or the sport you choose to practice. If you want to spend your days rolling around with a bunch of sweaty half-naked dudes, feel free.
_Fluffy_Lol Letting your true colors fly now aren't you?
BenWhityou bet your ass i am. I'll stuff your vegan ass in the trash can in the locker room then steal yo bitch.

_Fluffy_Lol Letting your true colors fly now aren't you?
_Fluffy_I bet I could tap you out in less than a minute. That articles only argument for impingement is that it only happens when you have bad form. Most people have poor shoulder mobility and cant do a proper pull up at all. Kipping is a specialized skill, just like kicking is in Muay Thai. They are both more dangerous than they are beneficial, which is why you have to warn people of the inherit dangers.
BenWhitPulling on a horizontal plane vs a vertical one is a much safer movement patter for the shoulder.
_Fluffy_which is why a row would be a much better choice
BenWhitRowing on the erg does not closely resemble nor replicate pulling ones body weight. The more reasonable suggestion would be a ring row... Which is a scale for people who cannot pull their own body weight.
californiagrownIdk why you picked this thread to troll in haha.
californiagrownI suppose you aren't a fan of the push press either? It has just as much potential for injury as a kipped pullup.
Idk why you picked this thread to troll in haha.
_Fluffy_But using a ring instead of a bar is much safer for the shoulder joint. Kipping is begging for an injury. Statistically rugby is safer than Crossfit and garbage pull ups are one of the biggest reasons.
"Kipping pull-ups like these other gymnastic movements place a large amount of stress on the shoulder joint and it's surrounding musculature
Firing the musculature at the right time is important in minimizing stresses on the shoulder (Proprioceptive training)
Technique becomes critical
Learning how to position the humeral head properly into the glenoid is critical. (Sounds a lot like shoulder packing)
Why else might crossfit athletes get injured doing kipping pullups.
Poor flexibility – If you don't have the mobility to put your arms fully overhead, kipping pullups end up being an end range stretching exercise under a lot of load(your bodyweight)
Poor Technique and No Shoulder Packing – These studies emphasize the importance of technique and putting the humeral head into a healthy position
Fatigue – It's natural to lose form when you get tired. Crossfit is notorious for fatiguing people. Once the musculature that surrounds the shoulder fatigues, you won't be able to maintain a shoulder packed, healthy shoulder position. Now you're hanging on the labrum and ligaments within the shoulder joint and those articular(joint) forces go up just as in the study above."
we we are trying to build the body, not destroy it.

BenWhitI wax poetic on technique, body awareness, strength development, fatigue management, etc. every time I post in here.
I really hope someone rocks you right square in the ballsack at your next tiddliewinks practice, or whatever you call it.
_Fluffy_you would be the type of guy to suggest kicking a someone in the nuts
but for real doe, I love crossfit!

saskskierFor real doe, I love thai boxing!

_Fluffy_comparing CrossFit to a martial art that is almost 800 years old is idiotic
saskskierI'm not comparing the two. I'm saying it's stupid to take a youtube video highlighting idiots and then use that as an example to prove your point.
