cobra_commanderWhat additional stressors are in your life and what is your available recovery?
louie.miragsThe copy and paste corporate gym I go to (pf) just redid their whole layout and got new machines. They removed the benches and squat bar! They kept the j-machines but I tried doing tricep press and it just feels awkward. Shit blows. It's only 20 bucks for the premium membership so that's a plus but I may have to switch soon. Or change my whole workout. Gold's gym is supposed to be reopening but I heard they're going thru management issues.
Sdot.Yeah, I noticed the same thing after my shows. I put on 25 pounds in less than a week after my second to the last show (and competed in my last show with the extra weight, as I had three shows in five weeks). A week or two after that show, my energy and lifts were better than they'd ever been. Such a great feeling!
Honestly, I've been in the gym twice in the past month, and it's killing me. But I'm two weeks away from my wedding, and I'm working two full-time jobs (working 15-21 hour days). So basically, I have the choice of either sleeping or lifting for the remaining four hours of my day, and I obviously choose sleeping. I'm so stressed and constantly exhausted, I can't even think about the gym. Things are calming down a little, and I'm freaking out because my delts have pretty much disappeared, so I'm about to start hitting it HARD for the next two weeks so that my shoulders are at least a tiny bit rounder in my wedding dress, hahah. I've got a show in ten weeks, I think... Maybe eleven? I don't even know.
So what's your next show, Jay?

juicedrummer11thats rough. its kinda funny though because the gold's gym i go to is pretty big and fairly new. i think they have at least 5 or 6 benches, plus decline barbell and incline barbell and shoulder press barbell spots all set up and they only have two squat racks and two smith machines. if that doesnt promote skipping leg day idk what does
.MASSHOLE.At my gold's they have 4 flat benches, 2 incline, 1 decline, then 3 squat racks, but two of the squat racks also have lifting platforms which is nice. Honestly though, 95% of the people who workout there skip squats anyway. Fine by me.
Toasty.Yup just keep drinking your water and go for an hour walk every morning if you have the time.
And try counting calories. Growing up I never ate that much shitty food, just too much. And that's why I looked the way I did. Too much chicken and rice can make you gain weight just like Big Macs.

juicedrummer11yeah it sucks cuz its like the day you mentally prepare for and those racks are empty for like 3 days in a row, then you decide to do legs and so does the two other guys who are always in the rack for the entire time they are there. i might have to switch up my schedule a bit
louie.miragsWhat are you guys paying monthly? I gotta look into switching to golds
.MASSHOLE.I am at a student rate, I think its $139 for 3 months, so not super cheap, but they have a sauna, spinning classes, yoga classes, etc. It was the only one on the way back from work for me so I snagged it.
ABallsI really enjoy learning about body types and just the science of lifting and dieting in general. Maybe I can take this somewhere in my future. Anyone here a personal trainer or a dietitian?
Chubz.Starting this tonight with a friend of mine. Hopefully i'll be in great shape by fall!

ABalls@Chubz. How tall are you and how much can you rep on bench and leg press? If youre anywhere near where I am ill tell you what I've been doing.

p.hawksDoes any here take adderall/similar medication? I do regularly at school, but in the summer I am more sporadic with it. I try to only take it in the mornings also. Mostly I'm just wondering if there is anything I should look out for/best times to take it if it even makes a difference. I know that preworkout has lots of different stimulants, which is why I try to take it in the morning. I also try to eat enough before I work out so that I'm not running on just stimulants. Appetite suppression has mostly gone away, I'm able to easily hit 3000+ calories every day. Mostly just wondering if anyone else takes it/what they have noticed.

Chubz.i'm almost 6'1, i haven't benched in a long time, chest is tomorrow so i will tell you after i work out..but tonight i leg pressed 650 8 times on my final set. 8 was my failure point
blondie.You doing the diet, too?
ABallsOk you have stronger legs than me but besides that I think we're pretty close. Im 6'3 and started on April 25th at around 215lbs. I don't really have a fast metabolism so I do about 10-20 minutes of cardio a day (150-300 cals). What i did for the first few weeks was count calories, I would eat around 2000 cals a day. After that I kept cutting it down but then I eventually just stopped counting because my body got accustomed to the amount it should be ingesting per day. Right now I'm probably taking in 1700-1800 cals a day with the occasional cheat snack or meal. Currently I weigh around 195 lbs. That's a little over 1.5 lbs a week lost. I'm planning on doing a shock diet soon because I've sort of reached a plateau. I just recommend daily cardio. If it works for me it should work for you. Oh and drink a lot of water. Good luck my dude.
RedPandaI keep putting off starting working out I'm being a bitch. I keep making up excuses and can't get myself into the gym. I need to follow a program because when I go to the gym without knowing what I'm gonna do I just sorta aimlessly wander and don't get anything done.
Finally going this morning and planning on starting up on this: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=4195843
But I've literally never done a squat, deadlift, OHP, or bent over row in my life, and I feel like I'm gonna fuck something up and hurt myself.
*N_Wist*Do gyms have to have mandatory women's workout hours? Its seriously inconvenient, there's a few pieces of equipment that I wanted to use in the blocked off area, one guy was just looking for an attachment and asked one of the girls working in there and the lady trainer came over and scolded him saying he really wasn't allowed in there. What I don't get is that women want to be equal but they can't workout with men? what are they doing back there that we can't see, sexual exercises or something?

JayDopemy Bachelors Degree is in Exercise science, so ive taken a ton of a & p courses, ex.s phys, anaerobic/aerobic courses, kinesiology, basic motor, theories of strength and cond. among others, and some nutrition courses
louie.miragswhatttt that seems random as fuck
ABallsWhat did you think of those courses? Also, does anyone know how beef protein is as an alternative to whey protein?
louie.miragsI have never heard of or seen anybody using beef protein concentrate, just whey, hemp or soy. Maybe if you're lactose intolerant?
ABallsMy body just doesn't respond well to lactose. I'm wondering if the beef protein is as effective as the whey. I don't mind taking whey but the aftermath isn't pleasant.
louie.miragshave you tried different brands of whey? Some of the cheaper brands add a lot of fillers and use lower quality ingredients
ABallsI've been kinda strapped for cash so ive been using gnc brand whey. That probably explains the post shake shits.
p.hawksWas using MusclePharm, monster shits and farts. Switched to a better one, everything back to normal. I forget the brand, but I will check when I get home
ABallsLet me know dude

californiagrownBeef protein is inferior to whey. It is made from the bones and collagen AKA its jello basically. That said, i noticed no difference on it other than a little stomach discomfort, and a slightly funky taste which ive heard is normal for beef protein powders.
Dont get a whey isolate. The price doesnt justify the benefit to you at this point. Just get a 10lb bag of Dymatize Elite whey. It is $85ish and has somehwere around 130 servings. It will save you money in the long run. You are years and years away from having to worry about proper nutrient timing etc. Right now you should just be focusing on getting your macros in on a daily basis.
If you are dead set against anything made from milk then go ahead and try out a bunch of different types. See what sits well in your stomach, and what makes you feel good. Its not going to make ANY difference to you if you are using an "incomplete protein" for 10%-20% of your daily protein intake(soy or hemp). Just make sure that you are generally hitting your food intake goals on the whole. No need to worry about the micro at this point, just keep on making sure the macro is taken care of.
