MilaKunisOr at least put on some weight. I've been working out more often and after I workout I'm not hungry in the slightest. I'm 6 foot 1 and now way 143. I workout everyday and am wondering if I should start getting protein and if so what kind, or if I should just force food down my throat when I'm full.

louie.miragsYou should be on a pretty high protein diet. Don't worry about getting too big, that takes years.

MilaKunisAlright thanks. don't really want to be big. So I should just eat a shit ton of peanut butter and eggs?
reBlockeSkip breakfast or don't - it doesn't matter at all. Whatever helps you eat at a deficit will help you lose weight. The only food timing thing that makes any difference is having some protein + carbs after a workout.
Also, 15lbs / mo is not realistic or healthy. Some of that probably represents water weight if you're eating less carbs. 4 lbs a month is a better goal - which still requires eating 500 less calories than you burn every day.
If you're new to the gym, there's nothing that beats Starting Strength. It won't necessarily help you 'lose weight', but it will help you lose fat as apposed to muscle if you're eating at a deficit (those 500 cals/d have to come from somewhere, and it'll be partly from your muscles if you're not using them).

louie.miragsDo not skip breakfast. Breakfast starts your metabolism. Also, if you don't eat an adequate, you're going to be hungry as fuck later in the day.
reBlockeThe idea of 'kick starting your metabolism' is total junk. Meal frequency has no impact on your metabolic rate. As I alluded to before, if eating breakfast helps you control your food intake, go for it. But if you eat 2500 cal / day with breakfast, and 2500 cal / day without it, the result is going to be the exact same.

ABallsSaw some dude putting up 400 lbs on the bench and just tossing the bar around. That was fucking impressive. He wasn't a muscle hamster either, just a huge dude.
Granite_StateGonna be starting a p90x regiment within the next few weeks. Has anyone ever done it? Good gains? Is there a body type that benefits better from it? I'm 6' 155lbs but my target weight is between 170-180. I feel like p90x is good for getting cut but not building muscle.
Also, this guy is insane:

saskskierDang. For a moment I felt good about my 405x3 back squat pr today...
ABallsThat's real fucking good dude, you should feel good about that. I stopped doing back loaded exercises all together just from the fear of slipping a disc.
Anyway, I'm going to dabble in the kale shake area. My cardio is real good right now but I'm still struggling to shed that little stomach fat.
.AR6rider.I never really understood lifting to failure either. Then again, I always go to the gym alone, so failure for me would cause an injury in a hurry. Maybe someone else can chime in.

CirilloFinally got my bench set up

hey-dude-its-meyea dropping dumbells on the floor is really tough
does hgh make your skin tan? on tmz they implied harvey was on it bc he's tan but Ive never heard that and am not really seeing anything about it
saskskierSo jealous right now...
Nate.DogBe careful with that shit, always use a spotter, even for things like a bodyweight warmup, you never know when you're not gonna be able to get that last rep up.
RedPandaI'm a complete noob who's never really worked out a whole lot before, tried squatting for the first time ever today. I literally could not keep my heels on the ground after a certain point, even without weight on my shoulders. I would just come right up onto my toes. Has anyone else had this problem?
saskskierA) Who is Harvey?
B) Why are you watching TMZ?
SKI.INGMakes my joints hurt just watching that. Guy is genetically a freak. Or on HGH haha.

RosbifI just started squatting at crossfit a few weeks ago and I am the same, I have quite low hip flexibility and really low ankle flexibility. No way around it apart from stretching lots, though I sometimes put plates under my heels so I can still press through them.
Some of these stretches will help.

Toasty.went for 365 deadlift.. straps ripped right in half
cobra_commanderGet better straps... Should be able to take 700 easy.
Toasty.Well yea, they were 4 bucks and have lasted the last 5 months
Nate.DogYou probably shouldn't be using straps for 365 to begin with, if you can't lift it without them.
saskskierWhy not? Just because he's using straps doesn't mean he can't lift 265 without them or that his form is breaking down...
Nate.DogYou probably shouldn't be using straps for 365 to begin with, if you can't lift it without them.
Nate.DogI'm just not a fan of straps in general, if you can't hold the weight you're trying to lift in your hands, you shouldn't be lifting it is my philosophy. Especially when it's only 365..
cobra_commanderUnless you are using them to save your grip. Most people I know can lift anything without straps that they can with.
I'd say it is perfectly reasonable to lift 365 with straps in the following situation:
Deadlift: 8x3x365lb
Pause Front Squat: 5x5x275lb
Farmers Carries: 4x100ftx300lb
The Farmers carries are going to provide plenty of grip training on their own, and grip is likely a week point with them, so it does not make sense to fuck up your grip/hands immediately before hand.
I also think it is reasonable to train your max efforts with straps. I have a friend who always trained with straps for several months leading up to a meet where he pulled 680 with out straps (hook grip) for a PR.
.undetectedIs it bad to work out late at night, like right before you go to bed?
