I have a cabin pretty close to Jumbo, on the west side. Try and get up to the pass a couple times a year. Usually late spring for skiing and in the fall/summer for hiking.
here is a pic of my puppy at the top of the pass, looking west, away from the future resort site.
this is Jumbo mountain. As you can see, there was recent logging and the plan calls for lifts basically up the cut area stopping at the top of tree line. Also a couple chairs on the east side. So there is a ton of tree skiing up there too. Along with Alps sized alpine.
As you can see, the area is far from "pristine" There are cut blocks and selective logging running up both sides of the road.
I'm all for a real resort being built in BC. But I don't think Jumbo is the right spot. My dream spot would be further north west, in the Monashees. More Snow, Bigger Glaciers, Better Trees.
This lake would make a great base. Low enough that summers would be warm and swimmable, in winter it freezes over.
Even on Google Earth, the trees look like monsters. Real Old Growth.
