I own guns for both self defense and fun.

As far as your question goes about licensing/registration, I think most gun owners are worried that registration leads to confiscation. In my opinion, it is no business of the state whether you own something or not.

For licensing, to carry concealed is already enough of a hassle. To defend yourself and have your 2nd amendment rights you literally have to jump through hoops and deal with bureaucracy all along the way. Here in CT it took my dad fucking ages to get his permit.

I forgot other questions but as far as magazines goes, I see no use in restricting the size of magazines. They claim it is for safety, but when carrying concealed I am allowed to carry as many mags as I want. God forbid I wanted to do damage to the public, the .2 seconds it takes to dump a mag and put a new one in isn't saving any lives. I just see it as political football and to make legislators look like they are doing something to make the public safer.

TLDR None of these rules matter anyways what fucking criminal is gonna register his AR before shooting up a mall.

I like how it's all packaged out as good things. In reality the government has a horrific track record with getting involved in things. Look at the economic shithole we find ourselves in. The government is not some magic entity that can solve all our problems, the sooner we realize that the better off we'll be.

I actually agree with this. but it goes the other way as well. If you don't need universal health care, then you don't need drug regulation or drug patents. If someone wants access to a drug they should not have to pay to see a doctor to get it. you don't need a DEA or a giant military or ridiculous prison sentences. No copyright law, no software patents etc.

we must ostracize people who carry guns. don't hire them, don't let them into your home, don't let them join your groups, don't support their businesses. The government might not be able to change things, but people can.

I would literally fire an employee who carries a gun around in their personal time, and if there are laws that protect them from that, then there should be laws that protect me from their guns.

I like guns and shooting. They are quickly becoming some of my favorite hobbies. I like the way they look and operate, how each one shoots, and there are SO many different kinds of guns to choose from that a collection is never quite finished. That's before you even start modifying them.

Target shooting is awesome and incredibly fun. What's not to like about blasting off 100-200 rounds at various targets and making up friendly competitions? Smallest rapid-fire groups at 25 feet, attempting to pick off 1 cm stickers at 75 feet, completely destroying entire targets with shotgun shells, etc, etc, etc...

On the other hand, carrying for self defense is not fun. I wouldn't do it if I didn't feel like I needed to (ahem...feel more comfortable) sometimes.

To me, shooting is a sport/hobby that happens to come along with the perk of being able to protect yourself.

With all that said...I like the idea of most gun laws. I would not mind mandatory background checks or even "cool down" periods. I realize this won't stop the real criminals, but I fail to see how it possibly has a negative impact on regular gun buyers. Ohhh noooo, you have to wait a week before you can get your new gun. Ohh nooo, you have to submit some personal information in order to verify you're not a criminal. Ohh fucking nooo, you have to let the police know you have a gun. Why are any of these things a big deal? If you're not actually a criminal, who gives a shit?

The one thing I do think is ridiculous is the 10 round mag law. That's just annoying. Luckily, that doesn't affect me.

In short, guns are cool.

I go to Boise State and currently Idaho is in a huge debate over potential legislation that will allow concealed carry on campus. I'm all for guns but I think this is a huge mistake if this ends up going through. The potential for someone to snap and people to get shot seems so much higher, cops are no longer going to know who the gunman is if there are 50 people running around campus with pistols and it could even influence teachers decision making knowing that if they upset the wrong person with a low grade, they might react.

I agree you should be able to get access to what you want without having to see a doctor I do feel there needs to be something worked out involving anyone under 18.

Definitely an interesting question. I go to a state school too and wonder why state laws that allow licensed people to carry are then banned on campus. I'd hate to have to carry to defend myself at school, but I think it's an interesting point to raise in lieu of all the school shootings.

And I honestly don't think allowing legal permit holders to carry will start killing over bad grades and what not. If they wanted to and were the type of people to do so, they'd do it anyways. You don't have to worry about the law abiding citizens doing that sort of thing.

Imagine a middle-upper class guy loses his job and his wife and has a breakdown. He's not the kind of guy who would know where to find a gun on the black market, nor is he the type to even consider going downtown to find one. Maybe he wants to stroll in to the local gun store, buy a gun, and shoot himself in the car to end his misery. Maybe this is a 1 out of a million case, but what if, after he is told he will have to wait a week to get his gun, he goes home, cools down, realizes he doesn't want to die, and moves on with his life. He never goes back for the gun. At least one life is changed.

Maybe that same guy decides he wants to kill his boss before he kills himself. Maybe he seems normal, but a background check reveals he was arrested for domestic violence 5 years ago. Who the fuck knows? I'm not talking about the street thugs who are buying shitty old Glocks from Tyrone in the crack house.

There is no negative impact these laws would have on the every-day buyer. What reason does anyone have to walk into a store and leave with the gun RIGHT THAT MOMENT, unless they plan to use it right after they leave?

Those are just hypothetical examples my professors have been presenting; especially with Idaho having some of the most lax concealed carry permit regulations in the nation. To me, school campuses should be almost "sacred" for lack of a better term when it comes to weapons. There is no need when the only objective on a campus is learning and bettering yourself.

But yes I believe in background checks not as a hindrance to individual freedoms, but to the freedoms of everyone else. I think it's necessary to make sure buyers don't have a hidden past for the safety of everyone else.

But let's be real, if you're intent on killing yourself (possibly others), there's a million ways to do it.

I'm confused about OPs questions? Guns are slightly regulated already. Depending on sstate for concealed carry you need to be registered and in NY when you purchase a gun they do a background checked. You can't own a gun if you have a felony. That's regulation...

and junior license for guns?? Get real man! Nothing more unstable than the mind and emotions of a young man. There is a reason for the age limit.

I'm in total support for guns and the 2nd amendment and I use mine solely for recreational shooting and hunting. I agree with AR6 where a cool down period could help with regulation but other than that I don't agree with creating restrictions for law-abiding citizens from purchasing firearms. Save those with mental disorders or, obviously, people with prior felonies and what not.

Let me get this straight before I get all upset over the internet. Do you have something against owning guns, or just against those who open carry where its legal? There is a very valid argument to owning bolt action rifles/shotguns/handguns. Personally I think Americans should be able to purchase whatever firearm they wish but for my purposes the weapon systems listed above will do just fine, and I have no need to open carry or even to get a CCW but have extended family members who do have CCW's and have foiled car thieves and other wrongdoers without ever firing a shot.

So... Why do you hate guns so much?
