Help pick my first ski

Sparknotes at bottom for the lazy fucks

Live in the south, grew up skiing on rentals once or twice a year. Going to go to App State this year, looking to ski more and buy my own pair of skis. Been lurking for a year on NS so I guess I'm aware of the brand preferences.

I don't suck too bad compared to people down here, I can do all the trails on the mountain apart from moguls, but, once again, that's not saying much being as it IS in the south. Haven't really stepped into the park at all apart from accidentally launching a booter when I was 10 (I landed it backseat) hahaha

I skiied this past month twice (unheard of for me), and I rented 178s. First go round they felt hard to control, 2nd go round they felt nice. Could've been the skis. I don't have a length preference, and I don't really trust the ski shops around here because I feel like they have no idea what they're talking about, just like I dont.

Dimensions: 6'2'', 155

Sparknotes: grew up skiing on rentals in the south, going to college where there is more snow, looking to buy an all-mtn park ski to truly learn how to ski and begin to dabble in the park. My dimensions are above. Need suggestions for all-mountain park ski, boot and binding suggestions very welcome as well

Please help me get me started in this sport!

also need tips on general ski ownership as well, like how often to wax, what not to do with your skis, etc

2k posts, doesn't have skis.

What's you're budget looking like? How much are you actually planning on skiing. Not saying to keep renting but you might not want to drop $$$ on a brand new pair of skis if you arne't going to go out that much.

On the plus it's spring and everything's getting cheaper. Also look at previous years models. You can snag a brand new pair of skis for a bunch of money off.

Wasn't really aiming to have a brand new pair of skis either way, past season is fine. Budget is probably 6 or 7 Hundo. Going to try my hardest to nab a season lift ticket.

get boots first, and get boots that fit. if you were a size 10 shoe dont get a 28.5 boot...

boots are THE most important thing in skiing

do NOT get line masterminds. I've watched two of my friends (neither of them try very much and aren't very hard on their skis) snap them in the exact same spot. Look into a softer ski such as the k2 Domain, atomic infamous, or atomic punx if you want to hit bigger jumps.

AR7's are solid. You can get 2014's for around $400.

I'd say 176. They'll feel fairly similar to the 178's you've rented. They may feel a little hard to control at first, but won't end up being too short after you start progressing.

I've had the Line Masterminds for nearing the end of 3 years. Durability-wise they've been great. One ski is starting to have a very small amount of delam, and thats about it except for usual chipping. The bases are extruded so you will have to wax them a little more often though.

I got AR6s as my first ski, I still ride them 5 years later, sometimes you can find good deals on previous year new gear on eBay, I think around a 178cm would be a good size for you

If you want twintips that are nice and flexy and playful I would say get some joysticks. They are 200 dollars and a great park ski

6'2 and 176s? That may be a tad small. I realize that OP is beginner, but trust me, after a year or two n you start progressing you're going to want something a bit bigger. Maybe try for something rockered in a 180+. Check out theclymb.com. They got nice skis for dirt cheap

I agree that after a few seasons he'll want something bigger. I just don't know that I'd get them now while he's learning the basics.

I have a pair of very slightly used 181 rossignol scimitars which are an all mountain park ski that would fit you "demensions"

So it looks like the Line TC is at front but I've read that it doesn't handle well outside of the park, AR7 is second.

Basically the lines are first because they're so close to me, cheap, and only ridden three times.
