I just hate them nothing more nothing less they are beyond over rated and i wish they never make music again. I can't be the only one that feels this way.

Pride (In the Name of Love) and Where the Streets Have No Name are my favs.

And yes, I think overall they're a great band.

I'm not a huge fan, but 'With or Without You' is somewhere up in my top 10 favourite songs.

The Edge is one of the best guitar players out there. He's not super fast (Malmsteen-ish) or technical (Steve Vai-ish), but I'm not convinced anyone is as good at using effects, playing with tone, etc. as he is.

Their most famous and known songs are overrated but they were a really good band. From 1980-1994 I don't think any one else had a run like them and put out so much good stuff.

Listen to their entire early albums.

These days they are sort of annoying.

I don't mind their music at all, quite the contrary really.

The only thing that puts me off is the self-entitled smugness of Bono that knows no equal apart from maybe Piers Morgan.

The beatle's are another band who's music really isn't that exciting, but they were revolutionary in their time. U2's style has faded out of the mainstream these days, but in their prime they were one of those super groups who had no problem selling out stadiums anywhere in the world. Even if you dislike U2's sound, even if you hate them, you've got to acknowledge their legacy.

Also I do enjoy the 1980's early 1990's material.

They were progressive in their time, and have left a legacy. They set the standard for pop music.

I'm considering the chord progressions and actual musical side of things though, where the Beatle's use the same chord progressions as 80% of all pop music ever, but they were the ones who mastered the 2 and a half minute peppy radio friendly pop song.

I dunno about you but when I turn on the local "rock" station it's all hipster bands with some mellow singers who moans in harmony for 3 minutes while the guitars play the same riff over and over. at least the beatles usually had 2 or 3 different parts in their songs. and I'm talking mostly about black keys type bands. if I were the drummer in the black keys I would either shoot myself in the face or get a real job.

Hipster bands are different than pop rock though. They attempt progression by avoiding the conventional songwriting of a verse, a chorus and a bridge, with simple yet elegant chord changes. The Beatle's style of songwriting works in many different contexts, and they applied it to a new sound of a new generation, but its still incredibly simple music (for the most part).

U2 can still sell out a stadium anywhere in the world.

as far as the beatles, there never was and never will be a pop act like them.

to say that their music is unexciting is pretty silly as well. they did some highly unconventional things, in terms of composition AND recording/production.

this has always been a mystery to me. even if u2 were my favourite band in the world I don't think I'd pay like $120 to squint at them from the nosebleeds of a football stadium for two and a half hours.

Yes, not everything was cookie cutter from them. I just think its silly to pretend that their general collection of work contains hit after hit composed of complex musical ideas. They produced (and pioneered) excellent, simple pop music, while maintaining a musical identity. Which I appreciate, but don't find musically compelling.

Most people on here probably can't appreciate the intricacies or composition of a song like that. They'd rather listen to these awful 20 something white " rappers" who are just horrendous and have the most mindless lyrics on earth. Most under 30 don't even understand music anymore.

Wouldn't you too if you were him? You gotta appreciate how much they've contributed to early fifa soundtracks too. And if anyone wants to hate U2 more, watch "Killing Bono" on Netflix. Good movie.
