im about to trade up from my 2001 outback wagon to a 2002 wrx. The wrx is built with 330 hp and 386 pounds of tq but its on a stock 06 wrx transmission. Basically im afraid of the tranny giving out from the power because i have heard that the wrx trannys have a glass gear box. I just need a decent estimate of what the stock 06 tranny can handle
#1, NEVER buy a "Built" car. A lot can be ghetto rigged, half assed, or simply wrong without you even knowing. #2 with almost 400 ft lbs of torque, you shouldn't be looking at anything stock for your driveline. its just asking for trouble. The subie trans is "glass" as you had stated. Just do youself a favor and find a bone stock car that hasn't been abused, and then modify it yourself. People still snap 2nd and 3rd gears making stock power. You will learn.
well he has the paperwork for all the work so im gonna go down and check it out next week with a buddy of mine that knows more than I. However if i put a 1st to 4th helical cut ppg would it solve things?
Ok. just fair warning. Make sure the guys who built it know their stuff, I would consider a 6 speed swap from an sti, or just get a PPG 1-4 helical syncro. rebuild the center diff and have some fun. pay close attention to the gearbox when you test drive it "close attention to 2nd and 3rd gears" they take the most abuse when you start spooling hahaha. who knows, the stock trans might hold for a long time if it hasn't been beaten up.
this... because they will brake stock or built. just expect everything in a yota to shit out except the engine... unless its a 3.0 then that will shit out also
