In that case, should couples be forced to get a divorce once they are done starting a family together? Once a woman goes through menopause and can no longer get pregnant should she be forced to split up with her husband? Should a straight couple that cannot conceive a child for whatever reason be forced to get a divorce?

"The act of marrying, or the state of being married; legal union of a man and a woman for life, as husband and wife; wedlock; matrimony." That's a definition from Websters in 1913, it lacks any mentions of an obligation to have children. Even an archived version of an 1828 edition of Websters dictionary fails to make any mention that a married couple must have kids.

Where did you learn this biblical history? If you're going to state 'facts' at least tell us on what website you found it haha. The 'catholic bible' was the main and only Bible that there was until the reformation, that is when Martin Luther took out those 7 books. To me either one is credible whether it has those 7 books or not. It's not that the Catholic Church decided to write and add those 7 books, but rather that the reformed church took them out. It's an interesting topic. I believe that if those 7 books were a part of the Bible for hundreds of years that we should keep them in the Bible. ,,,, Our country was founded as a Christian country. The founding fathers were Christians. At the beginning of this country the government was Christian. Why did people first come to this country? For religious freedom, but they wanted freedom to practice the religion of Christianity. I would rather live in a country that has a Christian government, but yet people would still be free to practice whatever religion they wanted in that Christian country.

Oh no I know, having kids isn't necessarily a part of marriage. But my point is that for thousands of years marriage has been defined as between a man and a woman, a husband and a wife.

Did you not mean it? Did you change your mind since you said it? Were you just spewing things you've had drilled into your head your whole life without actually understanding what they mean?

If that wasn't your point, then what was your point? And please don't say that it's that marriage is defined traditionally as being between a man and a woman, because we both know definitions can change and it's just a shitty argument that bigots like to use to hide their bigotry.

Jesus christ you are a thick motherfucker, the point is that you actually thought that was a rational argument as to why gays shouldn't marry. Why would you even cite having kids as relevant when you know it's not integral to a relationship? You have to get over the notion that the definition of marriage can't evolve, if we hold true to the standard of marriage set in the early 1900's interracial marriages would still be outlawed.

My whole point with the 'start a family together' part was that in a gay marriage there will be no kids.. Unless they adopt. But a man and a man cannot raise a child in the right way. A child needs a mother and a father

Cause they would have to be some straight up shitty people if they couldnt. like really, really shitty.

i agree, all other things being equal, a normal parental situation is better for the kid. But 2 loving parents are a helluva lot better than 2 distracted parents, or only 1 loving parent...and all those folks can adopt haha.






But seriously, in gods eyes adultury, and sex out of wedlock is as big of a sin as homosexuality. why does the church not put a ton of effort into outlawing those two things?

its true. a loving gay couple isnt quite as ideal as a loving hetero couple. But that loving gay couple will still be able to raise that kid better than 99% of parental situations out there.

So a gay couple shoulnt be able to produce kids...oh wait, nature already made sure that doesnt happen. If only there were kids out there, no one wanted, that they could raise in a loving fashion...

That's a completely baseless claim and if you actually supported it you'd be fighting just as hard against divorce as you are gay marriage. Gay parents are just as capable of providing stable, healthy and loving environments as any other kind of parenting situation

This is newschoolers and most people have the attitude of just doing whatever they want anyway, why would I even try to discuss this with you guys? The Rebel Alliance put it well. Obviously they're not the same exact thing but the crusade against interracial marriage were substantiated for nigh the exact same reasons moral crusaders oppose gay marriage today. It's a relevant point because you're using the same fucking arguments

You know why people didnt oppose the segregation in marriage? Because it was an unpopular stance. You know why most people hop on the bandwagon of supporting gay marriage? It's popular. And why not many people oppose it? It's unpopular to oppose it.

That's like trying to outlaw swearing. Gay marriage has always been 'illegal'. Or rather, it wouldn't legally be considered a real marriage. You guys are fighting to legalize it, I am not fighting to make it illegal. The sate might consider gay marriage to be a legal marriage but its not a real marriage in Gods eyes. But what would you guys care about what God thinks?

The truth of the matter is that gay couples have been raising children for a long time now and when you step away from stereotypes about gender/sexuality you realize that any combination of compassionate parents will do the absolute best they can to raise healthy well adjusted kids.

Supporting interracial marriage was unpopular, opposing gay marriage is unpopular. Opposing interracial marriage was popular, supporting gay marriage is popular. Sometimes the popular idea isn't the right one

Seriously, christians are the majority in this country(i know you cant speak for all of them) and they look the other way when adultury happens. they look the other way when premarital sex happens.

Purely by the numbers, it would be damn easy to pass laws outlawing these sins. the reason they dont is because only a VERY small percentage of christians look upon these acts as actual sins anymore. Why do you think christians as a whole have held onto Homosexuality as a sin, while disregarding other sins?
