Hi there, I'm new to NS so I wanted to get opinions on this edit I just put together. I work as a professional film maker but my passion is skiing, and ultimately I'd like to work in the industry on a regular basis. I hit up the French Alps for a week in January and shot this.
You did a great job on this one, that's for sure! Made me want to see more. Can't really find any big problem or improvement to go into detail with, except from one thing, and that is the coloring. Some of the clips looked bashing great, whilst some, to me, felt a bit dark and "dull"(compared to the other clips). I don't know if this is something you did on purpose, or simply didn't notice it in Post, but I'm assuming it's the first one. Other than that, there is nothing that seems to be "wrong". Cinematography was good, how you've put everything together gave it a certain "feel-good" feel with a superb flow, and the music fits very well. Again, good job! Looking forward to seeing more from you.
Yeah colour correction is something I've found particularly challenging about shooting in the mountains - there's essentially just lots of white and blue and not much else. I was playing around quite a lot to try different things; some are more effective than others. The long shots such as the avalanche section were shot in the shade with the sun right behind the mountain, so I couldn't do a huge amount to those without losing all contrast. Furthermore it was shot on the FS700 which produces a weak codec when it comes to colour correction.
But yes, colour correction shall be worked on haha!
