I could comfortably do 360's, grab/switch 180s ,difficult grabs, shiftes and basic stuff like that. I hear backflips are easy so I was thing about trying one. I mean easy is relative word so what were you doing when you did your first backflip?

Honestly it's easier then a 3. Start off a really poppy jump. Remember to pop. That's key. Good luck man.

backies are easy, and honestly not even a dangerous trick (unless you're throwing it off a 60 footer). As long as you commit you're fine

Font even bother for a pow day i could barely 3 when i landed my first backflip. One day i just said fuck it and threw it off a relarively small park jump maybe 15ft. Iwas pretty close and after like 3 trys i stomped one. So my advice is just go for it, also i had never backfliped on a tramp or even into a pool so yeah if you have done either of those you are better off than when i first tried one. Just commit

Meh. I think it's easier to learn on a good jump than a shitty one.
Most people learned on shitty ones myself included. A smaller park jump with some decent pop is a good option. Especially if it warms up in the spring. Something that gets you 4+ feet of height. Doesn't have to be a big gap.
If the jumps in your park suck and you have a shit ton of powder in the backcountry and friends to build a jump with that's fine, but writing off park jumps for learning tricks is an outdated myth IMO.

I think you should go for it. My first back flip was on a park jump. (we dont have much powder in North Carolina) Its really not that hard, just dont over think it. Pop and commit and youll think "damn why havent i dont this before" same goes with rodeos, corks, etc. Just know the rotation, maybe practice on a tram, and you got it!
Also, although powder jumps would be more "safe" I dont think its necessary
Let us know if you get it homie!

As far as doing it it's up to you. If you can 3 and feel comfortable on your skis you can do it.
COMMITMENT IS EVERYTHING! The worst falls are people who back out because they're scared. If you decide to do it you need to fucking DO IT. Peoples reaction is to not huck it hard and back out, or to turn to the side, that's how you get hurt. It's weird. The easiest way to get hurt is to be scared of getting hurt and try to get out safely. If you huck the thing legit there is like a %95 percent chance of coming close to landing it. You might even land the first one. It's common for people to overotate the first one. As long as it's not by a ton or on a huge jump that's not bad. Better to fall back than catch your tips.
I recommend being comfortable doing them on diving boards or trampolines first but not necessary. IF you haven't done any kind of backflip, find a mellow hill and do a backroll without your skis. Get the feel of rolling backward going directly over head.
Find the right jump. You want something that isn't too big but gives you plenty of height to easily get the flip around. You want something you feel very comfortable on.
Hit the jump a few times and get a feel for the air. Imagine you're doing the backflip. Try to visualize the flip to fill that amount of airtime.
When you do it you're going to ski straight at it. You want to crouch a bit to pop. You want your hand down by your side bent a little and ready to throw. When you nearing the top you want to ben your knees a bit more. Your upper body can come a little more forward and your arms might go a bit more behind your legs.
The pop. The pop is the most important thing. When you throw the backflip, fucking throw it. You want to explode upward and throw your arms directly over your head and bring your knees into your chest. The easiest way to learn is generally to tuck it but whatever feels comfortable.
Just remember to throw straight back. Look over your head for the landing. Don't turn your head to either side look directly behind you like you're doing a back bend or something. Your body will follow your head. If you pop correctly and look over your head straight you're golden.
On the backflip you can spot the landing in time to tuck harder or open up. On your first one it might feel weird to the point where you're just along for the ride. That's fine. IF you feel like you're going to under rotate really bring your knees into your chest and hold them till your tips clear.
If you stomp it first try, awesome you just did your first backflip. If you don't it's all good, you just grew a pair and sent your first one. Figure out if you're under or over rotating and try and adjust your flip to get you landing better. Also look for the landing and try to adjust more in the air.
When you get it down keep doing them. The more you do the more comfortable they'll be untill it's second nature.
At that point congrats on learning quite possibly the most fun trick in skiing.
PS: there is now a torch to carry though. When people want to see a backflip you are now compelled to deliver the goods as a card carrying member of the invert society.

From the sound of it you're probably not throwing yourself straight back. You're good at the tricks where you look over your shoulder. The thing with the backflip is you have to look directly over your head. As if you could make your head spin all the way around 360 to see the ground again. IF you pop probably and look straight back you should be able to nail it.

As long as you can see it in your head, its yours. The whole trick is 2 simple steps. Pop, and suck your knees up. I can guarantee you'll come around. Small park jump is way better than some shitty homemade one IMO

I did my first backflip on solid ice on the east coast. Stop being a pussy just pop and commit they are literally the easiest trick in the world.

It's a super easy trick once you commit but don't just blindly huck it as hard as you can. I learned backflips a few years ago and actually broke my back two winters ago because I threw it too hard

Don't listen to these fools about not doing it on a park jump. Park jumps are prime, just commit and know the rotation on a tramp and you'll be fine.
