Some financial firms will be asking for your SAT scores

So apparently some of the top financial firms are going to be asking for your SAT scores. Da fuck? SAT scores.... Seems odd. PSA to all the youngins on here. Don't fuck around with your SAT scores.

This pisses me off. I personally won't have a problem with this but I did absolutely terrible on my SAT's and still got into one of my favorite colleges. Fuck, I thought after college acceptance that shit was over with.

Apparently not. If other industries follow suit I would be pissed. Standardized tests are not a measure of intelligence IMO.

Gonna say this to AR6 above but decided to go the over reacting teenage girl response instead. Standardized tests suck. I've aways been bad at them but always been fine at regular tests in school. I prepared for the SAT's for about 2 months and only got a 1700

I'm pretty sure I'd laugh in their face. I have no idea what my SAT scores were and I'd like to think my brain is a little different than it was in 2003. Probably stupider. Maybe I should find them....

you could argue that neither are grades in general, but people will still look at those, at least with the sats everyone is taking the same test so it doesnt make a difference in how easy or hard a school marks.

It is stupid that they are taking a test people wrote so long ago though, people change a lot in college and they are higher the current you not the one from highschool.

Although someone who is smart can score low on an sat, chances are if you're in the 95th percentile you're pretty damn smart which is why these companies will be looking for those candidates. When you're dealing with a huge volume of applications sometimes using numbers is the best way to narrow down ideal candidates.

Exactly. These firms really only hire from about 20 undergraduate schools (probably less for grad schools depending on the program). To get into one of those 20 schools you pretty much need to have high SAT scores. Granted there are exceptions.

Who on here would want to be an associate at these places anyway? You won't have any time ski.

On the old test you got like 400 for signing your name or something. Its something like 200 per section.

Ehhh this isn't really true. They may only hire from the top 20 business/finance programs, but they also hire from all of the top engineering schools cause they love engineers. One of my friends got hired coming straight outta college with a biomed degree to goldman without a single ounce of finance experience.

2090 is commonly thought of as an excellent score, the test is out of 2400.

if i remember correctly if you score a 2300 or above you have to retake it to prove there wasn't cheating involved

im not saying im that smart, but i got a 1700 on my SAT's, because i took the ACT first and got a 22 and my top school accepted the ACT, so i took the sat without any prep or even trying. using that, which at the time didnt matter to me so i didnt really try, would be bullshit

Not trying to be a dick but the fact that you didn't try would also tell the firms something as well in the amount that you value your education. If they see a bad score on the SAT it tells the firms one of two things,
1. The person is not super intelligent (which isn't you in this case) or
2. The person didn't try on the test, which in turn would lead to questions of work ethic and value of education, both of which would be good pieces of info for a company.

I think in the end its a decent, lower importance standard for companies to view as it does give some valuable information.

a "decent" score would be more like an average score, which is around a 1500.
also a kid i went to high school with had to retake his because he got a 2320, which raised suspicions that cheating was involved. he ended up scoring the same the second time through

I see where you're coming from with this, but I disagree. I value everyone's opinion on SAT's and ACT's but I personally think it's a waste of time. I got a 1700. That's average but still it's not very good. Even though I got a bad score, I prepped for a solid two months before I took it... twice. I got the same score both times. But in school, I work my ass off and get good grades. I feel as though GPA is a better representation of intelligence. It shows real work ethic because you have several assignments to keep up with per quarter/semester, not just one test.

You just contradicted yourself. GPA is a reflection of how hard you try in school and how much you study, not how smart you are. Anyone can do well in high school with a little bit of effort. The fact that you studied for 2 months for the SAT and didn't do well shows that you're pretty much an idiot, despite what your report card may say.
