Jobs that allow you to ski

Searchbarred, googled, only thing that came up were ski industry related jobs or did not ask the same question. I'm not necessarily avoiding ski industry jobs, but from what I've read it's very difficult to live comfortably and ski a ton while working in the industry. I just want a job that will allow me to live very close to a good mountain (doesn't have to be insane, but definitely at least decent).

I came up with the idea of being an elementary school teacher in a place very close to a mountain where school gets out at a reasonable time, then I'd have the opportunity to ski on some weekdays and weekends. During the summer get a part time job (may even be able to ski in the summer if I'm able to live near Hood) haven't put a lot of thought into it but would like to hear about what you guys think, or if any of you who are older currently have a job that allows you to ski and pays decently.

I agree but I don't want to go through life avoiding my future responsibilities. If I enjoy thinking or dreaming about what I want to do when I'm older, why does it cause a problem for you guys. If you don't like my questions or opinion then go on to the next thread and quit bitching. I like going out and my teenage years will definitely be remembered as a major highlight of my life but I also like to have a sense of direction in my life

This is exactly my thoughts. I will never work teaching someone to ski or fly fish. I like to keep my work and fun separate. I know too many people who work on the mountain that get burned out on it and don't even want to ski on their days off. Look in to restaurants and hotels, and if you have the experience, sales and marketing teams for resorts are great ways to work with the mountain and make good money.

And no, not based on that, that actually sounds awesome. Based on the fact that given time to be on the computer while at work, you immediately jump to trolling a 16 year old. If bashing a kid on the internet is what gives you happiness and you try to convince people that skiing is nothing but a hobby and only worth to do on the weekends as an adult then yes, I believe you are an extremely unhappy person to the extent that I feel very sorry for you

If you'd like to stop taking everything I say out of context then we may actually be able to get somewhere with this, unfortunately I don't see that happening because I've shit on everything you have said so far, so I guess I'll continue.
Why do you come to the conclusion that I want to be a "broke-ass ski bum" if the title of the thread is "jobs that allow you to ski" and in the OP I stated that I wanted to live comfortably. For future reference, being broke and living comfortably aren't the exact same thing
After that you said "that's fine with me" shut the fuck up, now you just look dumb. It obviously is not fine with you if it bothers you to the point that you write a long rant in response to the thread.
I never said skiing is a way of life, brahhh. I did say that I would like to ski a lot while working, and that I love skiing and really hope to be able to have a job that still allows me to ski.
By the way, it's great that you can troll on NS and jerk it to car/bodybuilding websites while at work, but I bet your job is that tedious low paying desk job that every single person fears getting stuck with for the rest of their life. Your statements are contradictory to the point where they don't even make sense. "you need to focus more on where you're going to school and what you actually want to do with your life" yet you work a fucking desk job, what a fucking joke.

I've worked at mountains for the last 11 years. 3 years teaching snowboard lessons, 8 years Park Crew.

Living comfortably depends on the person. To me living comfortably is doing a job I love and would do/ have done for free. IF I can make enough money to pay rent and eat food and love doing it, that's comfortable. If you want to own new cars, eat at fancy restaurants or whatever you probably can't support it with many of the jobs in the industry.

I've gotten 100+ days on the hill several years working the park. Everything form pow days, build days, sunny park lap days.


Most people don't work in the ski industry for the money. They do it because they have a passion for skiing and being involved in that makes much more sense to them. They do something they love and make enough to put a roof over their head, food in their stomach, and get some shred days with their friends.

Lol. But actually, if you're thinking of a career path, just work hard and get a good job. Take time off for awesome ski trips, try and get out on weekends.

If uni or college is in the cards for you, don't pass that up or take something stupid that you don't like just because it means you get one or two more days on the hill. Do something that will make you cash, and that you don't hate.

If you are really interested in education then working at a school is a really good choice. I work in the office at a college in student services. I ski with some instructors but they can't always take vacation time when I can. Working in student services I work year round and my busiest time is in the summer. Working in education doesn't pay the most but if you budget well you can still afford to ski as much as you want to.
