Moguls; The Common Park Skier's Worst Nightmare

For years i have been observing skiers slaying it in the park, and then struggling like gapers in moguls. The skiers of today, are not what they were in the past, skill in mid air has replaced the skill on the hill. I blame the culture that we live in today; a culture where skiers are judged by one aspect of their skiing. Skiers these days simply don't respect their roots. If you can't ski moguls than how are we suppose to take you seriously as a skier. Snowboarders certainly share a large portion of this blame as well, because they can't shred moguls, without butchering the shit out of them. To combat this appalling epidemic, i propose we form moguls on every booter and every landing in every park, and on every mountain. All you mogul haters should be ashamed and embarrassed. But to all the fellow shredders that can still slay moguls, i salute you, pray that the future generations revert to the ways of old!

I mean I'm not claiming to be the best, but come on tiny little tips vs. big straight skis with almost no tail?

I grew up ripping moguls on like 205 Salomon Super Force 9's. Compare those to a set of 178 center mounted J-Skis, and hell yes the J-skis fucking suck in moguls.

When you've used the right sticks for the terrain, its easy to realize how limited other types of skis can be.

SURE you can for sure do it. No problem. I'm just saying that it fucking sucks as a ski for that.

I still claim moguls suck on park skis, call me a bitch if you want. Go try a pair of Salomon super force 9's after ripping on your park skis and try to tell me you don't notice a difference.

just playing with ya. it's always a good time to rip into the bishop at times.

Ive taken some atomic beta carve 190s through bumps and they are nice and tail stiff and mounted back. so easy to slam through but the long front makes it tough to maneuver quickly. I am one of the bump skiers that goes into the valleys and not a top hopper. i find all my control underfoot or the front of the ski. Its experience from skiing tight east coast woods. I dont get back seat and require the stiff tail to keep me forward. as strange as it is, i like my dead moneys's over my old Rossi S4s for bumps even though the rossi was much stiffer

I think NS staff should do a ski tour and come ski Gore Mountain woods with us some day.

YOu know its funny... these days really its all about how you like to ski that is what makes things good. I just find the massive stiff tails that come with center mounted skis get tangled up behind me in the woods/bumps. I can do it for sure, but have a lot more fun on another set.

Dude I'd love to come over there and shred it up. One day we'll be sure to make that happen!

I rip moguls, glades and whatever I run into on my center mounted pipe cleaners, sure it's a bitch in pow but if you just position yourself right and are aware of how much ski is in your back you won't have to worry about getting caught up. Sure other skis shit on mine in those conditions but it's all skiing in the end. If anything I rip the glades at Stratton more than any other trail nowadays, stupid setup for my riding but eh, I mean as long as you are in good shape and can handle the burn then you're fine.

skied moguls last weekend on some AR5s and have to say, I take back everything I have to say about centre mounted park skis not being great in moguls. It was a total blast. Loved it.

I come from a mogul background, competitor and coach, and I had no problem moving from 195 mogul skis to 180 Dynastar Candide's back in the day. I still ski bumps, cuz we have a bunch here in the Boat , but def a little different, not straight down, left right with no deviation, but 4 or 5 and then some switch or a big GSer. The bumps lines are not as good as they used to be around here, but you have to adapt your style. Right now I'm skiing the APO Sammy Carlsons, and they rip bumps like no other, just the right stiffness under foot and a 17.3 turn radius. And if you can't ski bumps you need to work on your short turn game on the flats. If you can't pressure the front of your boots and make decent pole plants on a groomer, you got no chance in moguls.
