Moguls; The Common Park Skier's Worst Nightmare

For years i have been observing skiers slaying it in the park, and then struggling like gapers in moguls. The skiers of today, are not what they were in the past, skill in mid air has replaced the skill on the hill. I blame the culture that we live in today; a culture where skiers are judged by one aspect of their skiing. Skiers these days simply don't respect their roots. If you can't ski moguls than how are we suppose to take you seriously as a skier. Snowboarders certainly share a large portion of this blame as well, because they can't shred moguls, without butchering the shit out of them. To combat this appalling epidemic, i propose we form moguls on every booter and every landing in every park, and on every mountain. All you mogul haters should be ashamed and embarrassed. But to all the fellow shredders that can still slay moguls, i salute you, pray that the future generations revert to the ways of old!

just because you like moguls, it doesn't mean everyone else should. that's like me forcing you to snowboard, everyone gets to choose what they ski and how they ski it

Not all of us hate moguls. Without moguls our discipline in the sport wouldn't exist. I grew up without any interest in the "snowboard park" and spent my younger years trying to emulate the best bumpers I could watch at Killington. I love skiing a nice zipper line, however I will say being centermount and having that extra tail length can make some lines tricky.

Only got into park 3 seasons ago as a way to become more well rounded on skis and fell in love.

I also don't understand why many park skiers seem to totally denounce anything but a nice park and pow. I bet lots of them are the ones struggling to link turns or carve switch.

Im not saying that. Obviously they can ski, but the image of a good skier has shifted from a well rounded shredding machine, to the focus being only on park skills.

Moguls are sweet! I was at carinthia last year and just ended up hitting beartrap hapf the day with my pops. Greatful dead playin on the towers, I was a great time.

the people who cant ski moguls are the same people who lack true technical skiing ability and will never be great park. skiing fundamentals are the foundation of skiing discipline. the best park skiers can rip moguls and anywhere else on the mountain

I am honestly surprised people didn't agree with this, moguls are the shit. If you get comfortable in them you can just jump and gap and blast super fast and it's the tightest shit ever

Who cares if someone can't ski moguls, it would be like taking a racer in all his gear and telling him to do triples at X and visa versa with a park skiier... so why should it be any different with a park and mogul skiier? Park skis suck at bumps and mogul skis suck at park... its not that peole are disrespecting freeskiing roots but rather developing new ones

No offense Mr Bishop as I agree that skiing moguls in centermounts suck compared to some Harts, but if you are a strong bump skier than this is much less of a limiting factor. I personally ski with some kids that can out spin, flip, jib me on every feature but they freeze like they saw a ghost at the top of a bump run.

Thats the beauty of freeskiing...do what makes you happy. However as a bumper id say it would be cool if I could find some friends who like to lap park all day with some intermittent bump runs for variety sake.

i fuckin hate moguls. i can ski them fine, but i get no enjoyment out of it.

im even fine with well shaped moguls like on a course, but fuck those ones that are just skied out inconsistent pieces of shit where it is impossible to take a consistent line and get in a rhythm

yea most good park skiers are good skiers actually. if they put the time and effort skiing pow they usually outski most people.

every one can learn park but not every one has the chance to ski whistler's tree every day.

most of whistler's park rats will outski anyone in the trees...

it s just a matter of training :)

The majority of skiers don't meet many moguls. Most small very rarely build moguls runs, and they aren't big enough for 'naturally formed' moguls to occur. But most small hills do have rail features/kickers so this results in people having more experience in the park than on moguls.

Yeah i feel you completely. the only person i ski with when i don't meet my dad up there is a boarder so mogul runs are kind of rare. i do love when the north face at mt snow gets bumped up after a good storm though, i could lap all day there between the woods and the moguls if they're soft enough
