Fun fact! Because Darwin never went out to promote his book his friends did it for him. Becaus eof misscimunications from his frinds people didn't actually take what the book was saying and apply it. At the time, people thought it proved the chain of greater being, when it was inteded to prove the opposite of it. Not everyone knew, nor beleived, in evolutoion.
What Tesla did was absolutely integral to society however he was a nut.
I would say Newton or Leibniz because of calculus. I know this is about scientists however pretty much all modern day science wouldn't exist without calculus.
I'm not amazingly well informed but it was my understanding that most current physicists have actually rejected most of what Newton theorized, specifically the field of quantum physics.
Newton's theories only fail at the extremes: really large and really small. Quantum mechanics and strong/weak forces now govern the mechanics of the really small(electrons and subatomic particles like quarks), and general relativity describes the mechanics of the really large (nebulae, etc.). However, newton's original mechanics are still very valid for our level of mechanics. Without newton's work, no other fields of physics would've transpired (including E&M, relativity, optics, quantum mechanics, relativity, and all off the other fields that branched off of physics). Newton is the originator of taking a mathematical approach to physics; that's why he's the best scientist ever.
I don't know why you guys are all up on Tesla's cock. He did some cool shit, basically invented AC current, but he really didnt do nearly as much as Einstein, Da Vinci, or Galileo. Kind of a one trick pony, who was working with pretty useless and obscure science at the time.
He kind of is the scientist of where we are, I see Einstein as the mind that could see where we're going. Hawking is also up there, a lot of people see him as a celebrity scientist, like Bill Nye, but he has done some serious groundbreaking shit, especially with his newest black hole theory.
Space is the future, not AC currents. Tesla was just a building block.
