Atomic Infamous nose problem

What's the best thing to do with this kind of situation. I don't want to buy a new pair. They're the best skis I bought since I started freeskiing. Click for larger image

Fill it up with epoxy and clamp shut for about 48 hours. Then, test for a day. if it splits open again, then use rivets. Hope this helps.

haven't they started to include rivets on newer made infamous skis? you might be able to warranty them since they're adding rivets and you don't have them.

Ya I have the same problem with my Atomic Punx. Except my tip edges snapped and hang out so I just ripped it out and so far its been fine.

Had my infamous's fixed 3 times for the tips separating, I now have 5 rivets in each tip and epoxy.

Same thing happened to me I got mine warrantied and moved onto a pair of volkl skis. Best switch ever.

Just have tghem warrentied. Delams like that will nearly always be covered unless there is a big impact right at the spot of the delam.

Take them back to the shop you got them from and they can send them away for you.

+ to epoxy. Make sure that they will be dry. Epoxy hates water. Take some good epoxy, put it inside hold the ski for 5-8 minutes in vertical position, cause epoxy is thick and needs some time to get in narrow places and then press the tip. Did that to my old scratch ghetto's and it worked like a charm ).

Take them to the shop you bought them at and DO NOT epoxy them until you do this. That voids the warranty on the ski.

this has happened to all 3 pairs of armadas I have ridden. does anyone know if armada's warranty will cover this?

I have a friend who did the exact same thing to a pair of step ups, he got em riveted and they've been good ever since..

The newer Infamous come with rivets in them so you may be able to warranty to one of the new pairs with rivets, other wise just rivet them yourself and they should be fine

i have a pair of 2013 line afterbangs and i had a similar problem. usually epoxy sucks on skis but my friends dad had some of this super strength boat epoxy, it was put on months ago and still holds strong

It sucks to say, but all of the infamous skis do it. Even if you rivit them, it will happen again.

Ok so there is all sorts of advice here but I just wanted to clear it up.

Take them to a shop first. Have them see if they can be warrantied. DO NOT EPOXY OR RIVET, if you do you void the warranty.

So go get them looked at by the shop you got them from.

This. Same thing happened to my brothers and he brought them in and atomic is warrantying them. My brothers have three rivets in them and it still happened. This is a defect with the infamouses and happens a lot.

DO NOT TRY TO FIX THEM YOURSELF. Bring them into the shop you bought them from asap

unless you seal them up pretty good with epoxy theres a chance the woodcore is going to start absorbing water.once that happens its going to rot and the ski is gone

they have that problem. it is covered by warranty send them back in and you will get a new pair

My Atomics did the same thing!!!! I got warranty on them and got a new pair of skis for super cheap

A lot of the first pairs were recalled I believe, before they started riveting them. You should be able to call Atomic or wherever you got them from and get a fresh pair. I had the same thing happen to my infamous

Superglue and clamp. Once it drys and all the crusty glue has oozed out, file it down until it's smooth.

I've epoxied a number of skis back together, and this stuff works like a charm. Traditional epoxy is incredibly strong, but brittle, so I've found that it just cracks and pops out when you hit bumps skiing. Once it cures, JB weld hardens into an incredibly dense rubber that's a little bit flexible, so it stays put.

The only down side is that it dries black, and not clear.

Just some advice--I'd try warranting them first though!

armada's warranty will cover anything(basically) that happened just from contact with snow. So if your skis just did it naturally without being slammed into a rock/rail/tree/gaper(they might actually have gaper coverage, you would have to check up on it though) and they aren't more than a few years old, then they should be able to be warrantied; but if it didn't happen on the tips/tails then they might not be able to get warrantied.

Im a tech at a ski shop, and what I would do if those came in is get all of the splinters and crap out of there, then heat it up a bit with a heat gun. then pour epoxy down tho flap, filling it entirely, and as deeply as possible. use the heat gun to get it further. then clamp the tip as tight as possible, using ski scrapers, or something else flat to even the pressure. the epoxy should pour out of the sides, thats good though. you can chip it off later. let it dry somewhere warm overnight, and it'll be good.

that being said... WARRANTY it if you can

They are a super fun ski, playful, snappy and light, the dimensions are perfect, but that delam problem is a bitch. I skied 20 days on mine and all four tips were blown out. I sent my pair in about a week ago and I'm guessing I won't get anything back for another two weeks or so. If you get them and the tips split they will most likely warranty them for you. I think they might be worth it.

Try and get them warranties before you do anything. If that doesn't work out then bonding back together with epxoy is what you should do. As guidelines go I'd suggest the following: 1.) Dry out the skis with whatever means you've got available (heat gun is a good idea). Moisture messes with the curing process of epoxy 2.) buy a two part, long cure time epoxy adhesive. Make sure you've got one meant for low surface energy plastics like UHMWPE (which is what your base is made of). Preferably, get a product from a major company which is toughened (e.g. 3M scotch weld formulations). 3.) warm up the adhesive and then mix;, this will make it flow much more easily. However,epoxies react a lot more quickly with increased heat (rough guide is every ten degree centigrade increase halves the cure time, so don't try this with a quick set epoxy (you could get a runaway exoterhmic cure and it will start to smoke and burn). Plus, slow cure epoxies tend to be a bit stronger. 4.) put the epoxy in and a) (ideally) vac bag the tip down to get the epoxy in everywhere and squeeze the excess out or b) just clamp the tips together with as even a load as you can get. 5.) File off excess material PS you'll want to put something like electrical tape over the rest of the ski in the area to stop it getting coated in resin.

I got maybe 20 days tops on a pair of last years alpha 1s. no serious base or edge damage, but the tip on the left ski split just like the pic in the OP. I bought them online from a shop thats like 3 hours away and I'd rather not have to go all the way there to start the warranty process.

you can call the company that you bought the skis from and then they will probably give you your options on what you can do.

I had the same problem but with both my tails where the edge meets. I would ducttaped them until they were done for good
