MacBook pro help

My macbook pro 13in that I bought in like august 2010 is refusing to turn on all the way. I was just browsing the other day and a like semi-transparent black thing came over the screen and said turn off and restart your macbook. I did and now it wont turn on. It just boots up to the apple logo and the spinny wheel and wont go any farther.


any help please?

Wow... Thats weird. So you can't even get it to turn on? It may need to have some physical/internal maintenance. If that doesn't work, I suggest trying the hammer method, and if that doesn't work, the drop of the roof method works well too

have you tried booting in safe mode? hold shift until you see the apple logo when you start it up

Sounds like your hard drive is toast man, I'd suggest looking into replacing it yourself, apple will charge you like $500 and a new HD costs $75

Or if you reboot while holding command+r, you could try deleting everything on your mac including the software. That will fix it if some virus fucked u

hold command R and go into disk utility. see if it's fucked. try repairing it.

hopefully you made a backup of all your important stuff. if this is the case then just wipe your harddrive and install linux. if not, try and fix osx, put your stuff onto an external harddrive, wipre your computer and install linux.

My mac from the same time period would not turn on and it cost me ~$300 for the repair from Apple. I got the laptop back and it went bad immediately again and apple didn't give a shit. I sold it on eBay as is for $300

As people have suggested try different methods of booting. Try safe mode first, if that works it could be something with your mother board that's wrong. If that doesn't work do command + r and use disk utility to verify and repair your hd. From here you can wipe and install but it's kinda pointless if you're drive is done. You could take it to apple, have them figure out what's wrong then fix it yourself

whatever it is, call apple support, I had some trackpad and animations problem and didn't wanna call them up at first, fearing the long wait and unsupportive tips, but I ended up doing so and they fixed it really quickly, plus the guy was super cool, so i'd do that.

Don't give up completely though. I had this happen and I opened her up and the connection/cable between the HD and the board had popped loose a bit. So don't loose all hope.

The safe mode doesn't work, neither does the recovery. But it turned on fine when I booted from a recovery usb from my other mac. That leads me to think it is in fact the hard drive. I'm going to take it to an apple store next week and see if they can verify that it is the hard drive, then I will get a new one and open it up and try my luck replacing it.

unless you get a lemon like i did... but honestly, that's a really good move. don't pay apple an exorbitant amount of money to replace your hard drive when you can get an ssd and replace it yourself. i can't stress how much faster your computer feels with an ssd. you will never go back.

luckily he's got a 2010 macbook. the newer models are a bitch to replace a hard drive. pretty sure they do that because apple wants you to go to them but fuck that! I love my late 2008, just flip a tab up, take the cover off and boom there's the hard drive. haha
