No they shouldn't have. After how damn lucky that catch was, Seattle had no real right to win this game. A miracle catch shouldn't be the thing that wins you a Superbowl.

Had Lane not gotten hurt after that interception, TB would have been significantly less effective over the course of the game.

Maybe, but we don't, and can't, know that for sure. What we do know for sure is that the Patriots came back after being down by 10 at the start of the fourth quarter, and that that catch by Kearse was a miracle that wouldn't happen 99.9 times out of a hundred. And if you really want to go there and bring up injuries: At least Lane got to play a little. New England was missing their best running back, Stevan Ridley, and one of their best linebackers, Jerod Mayo. And, please, don't bring up Sherman, Thomas, or Chancellor

He's a power runner, Ridley isn't. Even if that's the case, Ridley still isn't out there, and neither is Mayo. All the Seahawks guys are playing, even if they are banged up. Arguing that the Seahawks deserved to win because they had an injury in the first quarter to one of their backup defensive backs when the game was tied 0-0 is ridiculous.

They say the odds of the past winning just prior to the 3rd and 14 completion was 4%. People say seattle should have won because at that point statistically they should have. That's fairly objective.

Bringing up Seattle's defensive injuries is relevant because brady was able to complete on 3rd and 14 among other plays that allowed him to come back and take the lead when he was at 4%. Whether or not that wouldn't have happened without the injuries no one can say but someone discussing it isn't ludicrous

Jeremy Lane is theoretically second on the depth chart to Richard Sherman. He doesn't operate as a backup. Simon, on the other hand...

But the more important injury was Avril's concussion. After that, Bennett was neutralized and Brady could step up in his pretty pocket instead of getting thrashed around.

That said, Seattle should have won - ball one bloody yard from victory?? - but alas they did not.

This. When Avril went out Brady was immediately able to change up their play by stepping up in the pocket. Pats statistically shouldn't have been able to come back but they did. Then seattle did...but blew it, unfortunately. At least it was a really good game. Doesn't matter though, anyone who hates the seahawks will say we never deserved to be in the superbowl...even if we return again, and again.

Uh don't get ahead of yourself. This iteration of the Seahawks has been twice. We'll talk next year. And if you're team prides itself on being brash, trash talkers who are excellent players, which they are, then other fans can trash them back. Simple as that. I don't get why Seahawks fans get so upset when people don't like their team. It's not surprising. They carry themselves in a polarizing manner. Which is good for the league, adds some excitement. And STATISTICALLY the Patriots were supposed to win. Not that I go by that, but your mentioned it.

No, I haven't heard anyone say they want him fired. Not one person.

Although it wouldn't surprise me if commentators or the media said stuff like this.

The overall sentiment of Hawks fans is "why???...why?"-- disappointed that we can't go back and just re-do that last play....feeling like it just slipped away from us....but not genuine anger or hate. Disappointment. I've heard overwhelming support for the team and how proud we are of them all. I think everyone here just wants to give them all a round of applause and let them know that we aren't mad at them and are supportive... that's why there is talk of a parade or rally--even though they lost. I know people think that's stupid, but I don't think its stupid to let your team know you're proud of them after they took a bad beat.

I haven't heard anyone say that Bevell or Carroll or anyone else should be fired. Hindsight is 20/20 and everyone realizes that. If the ball had been incomplete, or had been caught for a touchdown, people may still think it was weird we didn't go to Lynch, but it wouldn't be in the headlines the way that it is...and Carroll and Bevell wouldn't be criticized the way that they are. Seahawks fans know this. Do we wish we could take that last play back? Of course-- just like every other interception ever thrown. This one just happened to be at the most critical and under-the-microscope moment ever. Its just heartbreak more than anything else.

Yeah no I definitely wasn't angry, for a number of reasons.

First, I didn't really give them much of a chance this year because I felt much of their success was undeserved based on their play, so I felt like the whole run was playing with house money.

Second, it was a good game. It sucks to come out on the wrong end of a good game, but someone has to.

Third, when something that absurd happens - the miracle catch, followed by an unlikely interception on an incomprehensible play call - you can't really help but laugh.

Fourth, and connected to number three, as I said earlier, this is an absolutely perfect summary of what it is to be a fan of this football team, really. Dashed hope. Yet we cheer for them anyway, and my support didn't and won't waver for a moment.

well that's good. The whole country exploded after that play, and I saw more than a few posts calling for carrol and bevels heads on a stake, which seemed really dumb. total fart in the wind at this point. they aint going anywhere.


hell of a game, though. right down to the last seconds, that what every championship game should be like.

carrol definitely isnt going anywhere bevel would be the first out imo. i have not exactly liked a lot of his play calling for the past year and a half. but it seems to work most of the time. quinn is a bigger lose imo.

My dad suggested he should be fired, but that was heat of the moment stuff. I understand the strategy now that it's been explained (the throw is a wasted play that if you score on it's gravy but is really meant to set up for carries on 3rd and 4th down). Still don't agree with it - I say just trust the legs on Marshawn and/or Wilson three times and if he doesn't get in, then good on New England's defense. But I understand the concept. I don't think you fire the guy because the worst possible result obtains.

And let's be honest, when you call that play, the most likely result is an incomplete pass. The second most likely result is a touchdown. A turnover is a distant third. That's some shitty luck. Doesn't change that he created the possibility for shitty luck with that play call, but let's not pretend that it was by any means inevitable.

ya i think it was there were 66 touchdown passes and 1 int from the 1 yard line this year. That 1 int was the one from the superbowl

Well it's two Super Bowls in a row and one NFC Divisional game, but that aside I don't think there are really any (aside from maybe a trollish select few) that are calling for Carroll's head. I think nearly most people, myself included, think he has done a standup job, and has fantastic synergy with the GM that is the envy of most teams in the NFL.

Darrell Bevell, on the other hand, isn't as beloved. I'm not the biggest fan of Bevell at all, because he has a propensity to get too cute and force schemes that aren't there (lateral screens, forcing a Harvin-centric offensive program before that toxicity was traded away). I was one of those jerks in early 2013 that wanted him gone after the head scratching games against both the Redskins and Falcons in the playoffs. I might not want his blood as much as I did 36 hours ago, but blowing the Super Bowl only amplifies that sentiment.

There is a reason why the team that has had two consecutive Super Bowl appearances is losing their defensive coordinator for a head coaching vacancy and the offensive coordinator has an interview, really in name only, with the Raiders and one quick crack at the Bills.

2015 might be an awkward season. Either way, go Hawks.

With that all said, offensive coordinators aren't easy to come by, and with the departure of Dan Quinn and some others in his wake, having Bevell around is probably for the better.

Really? I thought that Falcons game was a pretty easy one to take considering how close it was. They made a good show of it and very well could (arguably should) have pulled out a win. The defense just couldn't stop Ryan et al. Such is life in a one-and-done playoff format. I didn't really blame anyone.
