Kiteboarding: Want to start

Kiteboarding looks like a lot of fun, but I have no clue on how much it cost, how hard it is to learn, or how to start it. Anyone here on NS kiteboard?

I would like to know what I should do to start, what I should buy, how much it might cost, how to do it (if anyone knows some helpful videos)

should I go somewhere to take lessons? I live in Upstate NY, by Lake Ontario, so I'm not sure there are any. I see people do it at the beach.

Anything is appreciated! Thanks!

For starters, its pretty much guaranteed you are going to need a few lessons (Kiteboarding is harder than it looks). Depending on where you live, go to your local shop ( or look for a shop at the closest beach town to you) and ask about used kites. Most shops sell used kites and the can help you find the right kite.

Check out ikitesurf classifieds for the cheapest gear. You can buy a beat to shit board but be wary buying a used kite unless it's from a reputable seller. Ideally you want to get demo kites from shops or schools since they'll be better about fixing the kite if you buy it and immediately blow out the LE or find a tear in it which has happened to me a couple times.
