We are now (mostly) relishing the exposure that our beloved sport is getting (Today Show, People, US Weekly, Miley freakin' Cyrus, all kinds of national newspapers, etc.). I'm reading it all and getting a kick out of it. The attention is awesome, but it's dangerous.
Though Joss has the gold medal in his pocket, Goepper and especially Gus are gaining quick celebrity (puppies, anyone?). This has the potential to backfire significantly and turn either one of these guys into skiings' own new Shaun White.
I think Gus and Goepper care more about the sport and their friends they ski with to reach Shaun White-like levels, but attention's tendency to corrupt (Miley Cyrus, anyone?) has me a bit concerned.
Let's hope our sport and its stars are able to handle the attention in a healthy way.
P.S. I wish that Joss, Gus, and Nick would have given Bobby a shoutout in their interviews together. It's gotta suck to be the one teammate that is left out of the podium, the interviews, the attention, and the glory. Especially since they're all more or less good friends, it would have been cool to see the brotherhood of skiing shown in such a way.
