Hey guys. I just uploaded episode one of my web series at 1920 x 818 for anamorphic and the video has only encoded up to 720p. does the file have to be exactly 1920 x 1080 for it to encode at full 1080p?
Probably a stupid question.

Your video is encoded at fill resolution which technically is 818p. Resolution numbers are based on the height of your video. Your video can not be encoded 1080 because it's not technically 1080.
Don't worry though, it's uploaded to the highest res I had this same though a couple years ago and realized it's all based on height.

If you are uploading to newschoolers, just render at 1080p and leave the black boxes on the top and bottom. Newschoolers doesn't adjust for other aspect ratios like vimeo does.

okay thanks a ton evan. So even though it says 720 it really is full res?

It might be slightly lower but think about the height vs the width with your edit the width contains much more res than the height meaning you might lose some but it's wider than your normal 720
