Why do I have to get parents like this??

Damn, some people need to chill. How overbearing are everyone's parents? I went out last night as it was the 4th of July and got pretty wasted with my friends. I called in sick at work today because I was supposed to start at 5AM and I was still drinking at 4AM. So i get home and both my dad and mom are waiting for me and my Dad says things like 'I have to choose my words carefully with you..' 'I'm very disappointed in you...' because I fucking called in sick to work!! He said 'well I guess lying comes easy for you..' I was having fun with my friends on a holiday and I put in almost 60 hrs a week anyway! Christ! Now they said that tonight they want to sit down and talk with me because they are worried about me. Good thing they dont know drink, do weed, shrooms, and coke on occaision. That would be the end of me. Shit, I go to a good college, get good grades, spend a lot of time with the family, dont usually party that often, like once or twice a month. What the Fing hell do they expect from me??
Sorry for the massive rant, I just never thought this would ever happen to me.

yea my friends parents sound exactly like yours. He was an eagle scout got all straigh a's in hs 1490 on the sat, goes to a top ten college, and works 40 hours a week. He got busted for having weed on him by a cop which was just a 100 dollar fine now they are soooo pissed at him. Hes not allowed to go on vacations with his friends and they dont trust him and just say the stupidest shit all the time about weed. So i dont know what to tell you he cant really do anythign but take it from them which sucks, yea shrooms are alright every now and then but coke that seems kind of bad but whatever

Yeah that sounds a lot like me. I'm an eagle scout and I work like 50+ hrs a week. When I talked about coke, I meant I had tried it, I dont do it frequently. Done it with friends maybe three times or so. ANYWAY, this pisses me off

Dude, fair enough to get pissed off at that. I probably would too and I surely get pissed at my parents from time to time but you gotta see it the other way too. It is their responsibility to look out for you, bring you up and develop you into a well rounded individual. You can't really rant them because they're looking out for your best interests. My only advice really is talk to them when they want to talk to you this time. Be civil and polite and just tell them that you think they are being too hard on you and overpowering. The best way to get stuff across is to be completely honest and just say what you're feeling. If they don't listen to that then sure, rant about that but just talk to them man, they're only looking out for your best interests, can't blame them for that, it's their responsibility.

I agree. quit the coke and shrooms. nothing but trouble there. trust me. i had to visit someone there everyweek w/ problems w/ coke. Not good stuff. but enough of that. Aren't you glad that your parents care about you rather than just leave you to do whatever while they're off in their own world? but seing you're 20 you should be able to live your life how you want to.

yea im sure he knows they are looking out for his best interests but hes saying they are over bearing which i think it seems like they are along with my friend. Wouldnt you be pissed if you were a good kid and your parents snap on one stupid thing, tahts not looking out for your best interest thats just being over bearing

that's true. But they will be thinking that they are looking out for him and they probably think that it's in yo best interests to rant at you about it. You skipped work for a day, sure it's not that much of a big deal but they're probably just trying to teach ya about responsibility and stuff and not to make it a habit. Dude. You're certainly old enough to talk to them about that sort of thing, if you find them over-powering or too twitchy then tell them man, have a chat about it, talking and communication is the best way to fix up any problem. Except maybe for lack of snow...

If you're 20 you should be able to live you own life like someone above said, but if you're still living under their roof you are going to just have a reasonable converstation with them and tell them how you feel. If nothing is resolved you're more than old enough to move out...

yea that does suck my parents let my sister do whatever she wants cause she is 21 and its her own life now but i guess since your stll living with them and they are just looking out for your best interests and stuff.

Hey thanks for the encouragement guys. Basically, I talk with my parents very seriously a lot but they have a very high respect for me and had no idea I did anything bad. That talk they had was actually about my pipe they found..(ouch!). So I sat down and told them I drink and smoke and they were none to happy to say the least. I didnt tell them everything but at the same time I didnt really lie... But like Timbo said, I live under their roof so there really isnt anything I can do. Quite a situation. Not about to move out seeing as I love my parents and bro and sis. I'm living out in OR NEXT summer but until then, their word is life i suppose. Sucks.
