Harlaut wins gold for social/popular media attention
From the story about his sagging pants, to all of the activity in my Facebook feed from people who have no relationship to skiing saying things like "Wu-tang for the children." Seems like Harlaut beat the Americans for most buzzed about in free skiing during the Olympics.
IDK if anyone caught this comment on the comments thread:
"I’ll start respecting these new events as soon as the participants start acting disappointed when they lose. Never seen so many “athletes” high-fiving and hugging people who just beat them."
Whitelines magazine (the british snowboarding mag that ran the Terje interview a few weeks back) posted a list today of 'things they'd like in the 2018 olympics'.
No. 1 was Henrik in snowboard slopestyle.
I thought snowboarding mags got kicks from hating skiers???
General public to Henrik about the Olympics, you're doing it wrong. Too bad they couldn't see that he was just having fun. I'm curious to know if the backlash is coming in extra thick due to the fact that slopestyle was paired up with men's figure skating on primetime television? All those old timers that were excited to see full grown men in sparkly outfits ice skating to Prince must have been shitting their Depends even more than usual and spitting out prune juice when they say Dollo throwing up Wu
It's pretty sad that people have to take the time to get upset over the competitors, regardless of the sport, being stoked on each other's success. I think that's one of the coolest parts of free skiing and the olympics in general.
