So Im 15 and this is my first year of park skiing and ive been progressing pretty well i guess I can hit most features in the parks and i can ride anywhere on the mountain. But I cant land a three. I guess the best thing to do is tell you guys the steps im doing and maybe someone can help. First off im trying it on a 15-20 foot kicker that you get plenty of vertical air on but i cant get the full rotation, i get to like a 230 and the i just stop spinning. I wind up and look behind my shoulder when i take off so whats the problem? Is the takeoff to steep? Well anyways let me know what you guys would do and maybe what jump i should try the 360 on instead.
Start small and work your way up on the size of jumps. Keep some pressure on the the tongues of your boots when your about to throw it and throw with your shoulders and hips not all arms.
try to keep it fluid. Don't huck at the beginning with just your shoulders because your legs wont be strong enough to spin them back around. That might be kinda confusing, but make sure that your whole body is spinning at the same time because if you spin your upper body 180 and keep your lower body strait, you won't have enough momentum to keep spinning. This is kinda irrelevant tiny little jumps, but once you start getting up to the 20 ft ones, just remeber to keep your spin fluid
I like your style, I never spot shit, i just give mu best guess to the rotation speed I need and do it, OP I would not recommend this if you ever want to actually get good
My guess is you are very used to throwing 180's and your simply not committing to the 3. Honestly you can throw a 3 on a 2 foot jump all you have to do is make sure you look ALL THE WAY AROUND. Its just that simple.
I did my first three on a little jump i made when we had a snow day once. But for me I just set my right edge when I'm about to pop and push off ... Ps I spin to the left
On a 15-20 foot jump you don't really have to wind up.. Hmm maybe find a smaller jump to practice hucking 3's so that when you take it to the bigger jump you can learn how to do it cleaner. That's how I started.
For hucking: spread your legs apart right before you get to the lip, wind your arms, and when you get to the lip throw your arms as hard as you can in the direction you pin. And keep in mind that hucking looks awful so just use it to learn
Do what this guy did, and then progress to small booters WITHOUT a real poppy lip. Those will throw you back and make you wanna cork. That might be your problem. You start leaning back and the freaks you so you stop spinning since you cant see the ground. Pop with the knees and carve off the lip if its easier for you.
instead of using your upper body to move your skis, pop off the lip and use your legs to get your upper body going and this in turn will bring your skis to 360
Ski Addictions vids are kinda cheesey for my tastes but the steps/tips are generally solid and can really help you out if you're just beginning in the park. Start smaller with side hits or little park jumps where you have to really focus on the pop then spin aspect and where you have to spin a little harder so as you progress bigger you can learn how to control your spins better in the air to fit jump sizes.
Practice practice practice.
I personally like to have someone film me so i can see what i'm doing wrong, ot helps big time.
Also don't stop spinning after the 180, and for the future (lol) you should do a safety grab when practicing it, looks better and helps you later on
You shouldn't need to "wind up" for spinning a 3,,,,, anywhere. The actual motion is not as forceful as you might think, remember to pop and use just your hips and shoulders.
