I wanna mount a set of urban beaters, but I really hate paying 60 bucks for a mounting and binding set. Is there anyone who knows a place that does it cheap? Or how to do it for cheap, I know those jigs cost a ton.
I mount my own free handed using a plasitc jig made out of plexi glass. It takes time and epoxy but I think it is worth it. Really not that scary or hard. IDK
I don't know the exact depth, but i did see a video where someone used a cut down pen casing they put over the drill bit to get the same depth every time.
I also would advise using a plexi glass jig over a paper one, but i don't have experience, so maybe a paper one works fine.
i once worked in the shop at sports authority (worst company in the world) and they only charged like $20 maybe $30. far cheaper than everyone else. however due to a corporate disagreement they cant touch rossi/look products.
I have had places try and charge me $60. It takes them around 10 min. Maybe less.
Chances are telling them they are hurting skiing by making it more inaccessible isn't going to work. Just make a paper jig and order a drill bit for $5.
I mounted a heal piece for a fourth time using a 1/8in bit with a piece of tape around it and the mount has lasted much longer than the 3rd shop mount. Id say I'm having a great time.
I just laid the heal piece on, used a nail to mark the hole removed the heal and drilled. I don't advise anyone doing this though.
The reason mount prices are so high is because so many people buy their shit on the internet now.
I mount every ski/binding set up I sell in the store for free, and most that just buy skis or bindings.
If someone comes in with skis and bindings that were purchased at on the internet, damn right I'm going to charge them $30 or $50 depending on their attitude.
