Worst Commentator Ever

I'm watching the womens slopestyle from New Zealand and the broadcaster here doesn't have their own commentator so they are using the Olympic Broadcasting Service one. I thought the snowboarding guy was bad, but this is horrendous. The only words he knows are "variety", "revolutions" and everything switch he calls "reverse form". Hes so ignorant he calls the rails "tubes" and then they do "very nice twists" out of them. Mix all this with a seemingly 'put-on' English accent and it's hard to watch. This is going to ruin the whole olympics for me. I miss Van Valin and Douglas. Even Uncle E.

Fuck he just said Kim Lamarre landed in "reverse fashion"!

I'm convinced they picked this guy out of the crowd. He has no idea what he is talking about in any way at all.

"Landing in reverse fashion"
"Crossed skis in her first somersault"
"Now reversing down the hill into a kicker"
"Tucks with knees, grabs the skis, and lands again in reverse"

just to point out a few.

This is seriously a joke. It's painful to watch due to this ignorant commentator.
Great way to debut slopestyle skiing in the Olympics.

You guys need to lighten up. This guy obviously doesn't announce park skiing regularly, he's just an ioc announcer for general live streams of the olympics. I think it's hilarious really

Yeah, alright, you guys are probably right. He probably is just some IOC commentator thrown in to do a job. We can't expect him to have in-depth understanding of freeskiing.

I'm angry that the OBS didn't hire someone who knows what he is talking about. Also this guy would have known about this job for ages and could have done some research on it. And if he has done some he must have been watching moguls

he obviously has no ski background at all, calling the FIS one word. im not annoyed at this dude im annoyed that for a first ever event they dont care enough to put someone that knows a bit on commentating duties.

Yeah you're high if you think that's how it works. This guy is probably doing commentary for 20 events. Why would they hire 20 people when they can hire 1? They don't care

51 Billion on the events... and not a single thought about a commentator who has a clue? It was the same for the snowboarding live stream. Seems ridiculous to me to roll these slope events out, and have people introduced to it in this way. Its embarrassing.

No no no i've watched moguls, racing, snowboard slopestyle... This guy is hired to do ski slope only. He's a buzz kill. I was expecting the olympics to have the same stoke as Mike Douglas does at X games but he is distracting me from the skiing and making the sport seem boring. He isn't introducing to the world what slope skiing is and what makes it special to a non-skiing audience. They will just see it as another olympic event. Aerials is looking better!

I think it's hilarious but I've been listening to some local Australian high level commentary. It's a lot better than any formal commentary I've come across (Canadian, US, Aus).

I've been quite impressed with CBC Jeff Bean's knowledge on freeskiing being an aerialist. Now we'll see how he does when it comes to calling some of the men's tricks but he's been very good as of right now.

BBC Live is where it's at. Also, I think you can hear Uncle E or someone familiar announcing at the venue in the background.

Not sure why they didn't just use the TV announcers that will be on the prime-time broadcast. After all, they are calling the entire thing and then just editing it down.

Is it really that hard to hire a guy who knows a basic tricks. Also the variance in ability from the women is crazy some can hardly make it down the top section and a few are 450 out of rails.

That was for Jamie Nicholls yeah, but got corrected straight away.

Is it because Im used to watching skiers that i find counting the spins a lot easier than snowboarding, or is it a bit harder? I think its to do with not knowing if a boarding is taking off or landing forward or switch which confuses me

 The CBC commentators are pretty bad as well, but they actually attempt name the direction and rotations that the athletes are doing..  not so sure how its gonna be for mens if its the same guys announcing with all the crazy shit bein thrown.

When watching woman's slope earlier today I was tempted to mute it. Then again I'm not sure what I was expecting from the BBC's commentary.

I remember them calling a bow and arrow a truck driver and then getting corrected on twitter.

True. But they have good announcers for bobsledding, curling, biathlon, and all the other wacky sports that we only care about once every 4 years, why not slopestyle?

I'd suggest maybe the ioc broadcast has connections with people who announce that stuff regularly and not slopestyle? For all we know, the announcers could be watching and commentating from africa...
