I rode a Krypton, went through two pairs of FTs and I'm about to go back to the Krypton...
1. fuck those buckles, I'm so over them sliding around/ not closing because of snow/ breaking. (my buddy has the new FTs and says they buckles aren't much of an improvement, he has to fiddle w/ his as much as I do in the classic)
2. My first pair of FTs I had to replace because the toe had worn out and I needed a new shell, not that the boots were done, but the shell couldn't survive all the hiking I did in them. Kryptons have replaceable toe/heel. (I know new FTs do too)
3. They're pretty great once you get them dialed, but mine took so much work:
-replace the tounge (wanted a stiffer one)
-shorter cables, since I crank my boots
-booster strap (it's like adding a buckle to your FTs)
-heel shims to minimize heel lift
-punched the shell out, slightly
-custom insoles
I'm really stoked on the Dalbello Lupo, fit as well as my FTs straight out the box. (once I find $700 I'll get them) My old complaint about the kryptons were that FTs were so much lighter, but now they are close enough in weight to opt for the one that has better components and longevity
