Fair to also mention hannah kearney... she was SO pissed she got third in moguls. Why can't they appreciate the other competitors and stop being such a pus about losing?
This guy just missed getting gold in down hill by .06 seconds and he was still so fucking stoked to get second. Why can't these other people who bitch be the same? It's like their expectations are so high that they just hate life when they are top 5 in the world at their sport.
Ya but that guy (Innerhofer)had zero world cup results this year, so obviously he was stoked to get second in the olympics. It's a little harder for favorites like kearney and miller and others to accept the fact they made one mistake and lost after 4 years of hard work.
Is having high expectations for yourself a bad thing? I'll never understand the large amount of hate that athletes who are super competitive and set high expectations for themselves and don't like losing get on NS.
Bode wasn't even that upset, he has more races. Now for Hannah, I get it but thats exactly what I was saying, she had high expectations and when she failed her own expectations she got pissed.
Ya? I don't get it. She worked super hard, bounced off one mogul and she's done for another four years. That sucks. Here's a quote I found about her training.
"Hannah, since May, 14,000 jumps, 126 hours of A-1 jogs or bikes, 450-plus [training] sessions, 140 recovery hot-cold baths, 1,000 jumps on the water ramps, 224 visual-coaching-program diary entries, 21 hours at lactate threshold, 190 sets of Supermans, 1,400 reps of squats, 1,500 Romanian deadlifts or glutes/hams and 470 pull-ups."
SHE GOT FUCKING 3RD PLACE how does that suck? thats fucking awesome and she's ungrateful as fuck if shes really that upset she's 3rd best in the world.
it's ok to be disappointed, but it's how you conduct yourself when you're in that adverse moment. but giving a sour look and muttering something like "bullshit" makes you look like a pretty classless child. you're a top athlete at the world stage and all eyes are on you. you gotta represent and keep your chin up.
Yeah ashley was super bitchy after in an interview as well. She blatantly fucked up a jump by under rotating and putting the wrong foot down first then tried to cover it up, but judges can review jumps. Its like she was trying to pretend it did happen, she killed other than that but she shouldnt expect a perfect score without a perfect program, even though she appeared to think her program was perfect.
All of this after getting put on the US team as a coaches pick, she didn't even qualify because she fell in the last contest but got pull onto the team anyways and then acts like a child.
Because she got 1st place last time, so no shit she's bummed out. Working hard for 4 years straight to keep your title, and then losing it to a pair of sisters would blow. Ungrateful would be something like Shaun White dropping out of slopestyle. He gets a bid to compete for his country in an Olympic event and chosen to represent the best snowboarders from the USA in slopestyle and drops out after because he wants to stay healthy for a different event. That's ungrateful.
Guess you're the type of person satisfied as second loser. Not even first loser, damn
You have no idea what is like to train for 4 years 5+ hours a day for a sport, with the intention of going in there to win it all. Especially for the U.S.A athletes, most of them have won world titles, and know they can/could have done better. I've been there (not on a world champion scale) but I've gotten 2nd and not been happy about it.
Well Kearny thas been the ONLY person i've seen so far in the olympics who has been mad they won a medal. Even McMorris was stoked after slope even though he was favored but only got 3rd. Getting 3rd in the olympics is completely worth 4 years of training.
Its competition man, its ingrained in most athlete's psyche to be the best they can be. Not to mention that this girl is at the largest event of her life, nerves are running high, and its the culmination of more work than I can imagine, so to feel like you didnt give 100% will bum some people out. I see what you're saying about being ungrateful but it doesnt make them bad people or anything
I agree to a certain extent, but let's be real, these people are extremely motivated and competitive individuals who have been training for this moment for at least four years. That's a long time leading up to one do-or-die moment, and while I certainly agree that they should carry themselves with composure, it's easy to see why they're upset in the heat of the moment after giving their all and then coming in third best.
USA isn't the only nation who has athletes that win world titles. Honestly, I would hazard a guess that less than 30% of your team have won titles. "Most" is quite a stretch.
Mark McMorris and Spencer O'Brien have been cleaning up at X Games, World Cups etc, and they were still super humble with their respective placing despite not landing on top. They were still able to high-five and congratulate their peers who beat them... sportsmanship, it's key.
if you train for the olympics you train to win gold not second place. obviously it would be hard to contain yourself when you sacrificed that much and didn't get what you want
I always hate to see someone pouting about losing like that. I don't care if it's the Olympics, if anything when you're on that world stage you should be more able to save the bitching for a time when you're behind closed doors. Act like a professional, not a brat, because no one likes a sore loser. I totally understand being disappointed but I'd so much rather see someone smile and shrug their shoulders in front of the camera than Ashley's reaction.
Neither you or I have any idea what it is like to compete at the level these athletes do. So I am not going to judge them because I don't have a a clue what it's like to be in their shoes.
Btw just because you see 3rd place as a magnificent achievement in your eyes, her getting 3rd could be seen as a massive failure for her. Stop judging you clown.
I'm sick of this thread, and I'm sick of you. You have no idea what it is like, or what they went through, you are not an Olympic athlete, yet you sit there and say, well look at everyone else, that is what I'm basing my judgment on. You have no idea what any of these people went through happy or sad with their out come. Train for 4 years at something lose to someone, then force a smile on your face, only then are you aloud to continue your bitching.
Did you just watch mens mogul finals? One of the canadian dudes got 4th and missed the podium with his team mates, but he was all smiles and giving them hugs and being stoked, he definitely trained just as hard as Kearny and wasn't bitching.
There is a consistent pattern here, other athletes who train just as hard as hannah or ashley arent bitching about doing poorly, theyre stoked on their teammates killing it. Thats the only point im trying to make and you guys are taking it to a level that I am not.
4 years of training?? Try life long dedication.... 4 years is a long time in a lot of sports... its pretty common for people who are unable to compete at these olympics to be fighting for the top in 4 years. Many only get one shot at gold, once you lose your prime you fall from the top quickly.
There's no consistent pattern. All it is is that some athletes hate losing, no matter what, some are stoked just being there and coming in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. That's all it is. No need to get pissed at the people who don't consider anything except 1st good enough.
