So i broke my wrist 3 weeks ago and Im getting my cast off three weeks from today, do you think that, that 6 weeks will be enough time for my wrist to be fine and that I could ski very close to the time I get my cast off? Will I need to take more recovery weeks? Has any one else gone through this?
Wear a brace and you're good to go. Broke my wrist in 3 places and got a steel plate put in just recently. Doesn't really affect skiing in any noticeable way; you can even still use poles.
No I broke mine during late summer so that wasn't a problem. Judge it based on how it feels or just get a nice rigid brace. They're essentially splints for the wrist anyway so torquing it shouldn't be possible. I wouldn't ride without a brace unless you aren't sending it.
Wait is the cast below your elbow? If so, why are you waiting for it to come off? Those things are pretty bombproof. I broke my wrist beginning of january and recently got my cast off and I think its easier to re injure it without the cast to protect it right after you get it off. If it is about the elbow just get a wrist splint and you'll be fine.
Yeah this sucker is below the elbow and it is just about un-breakable, I was thinking about after the doctor cuts the cast off to ask if I could possibly get something similar so I could protect it.
I skied with a cast (below) elbow years ago when it was thought that my navicular bone was broken. It wasn't a big deal skiing with it. Lately I fucked up my wrist (dont think its broken though) while skiing. Ive just been skiing with a brace since then and its no big deal
I broke my scapphoid and was in a castt for about 3 months in the summer. I rollerblade so it's kind of similar, I was sttill skating with the cast on and as soon as I got it off I bought a pair of wrist guards, i still use them and they were one of the greatest investments i've made. Good vibes being sent your way on your wrist homie!
