I have a recurring ankle injury and even though my din setting is in the right place my ankle is too frail to deal with it. I can't have a lower din either bacause they will pop out too easily. I was wondering what kind of bindings will really respond well in the right type of fall. I know marker griffons are like the really popular/nice bindings but are they also really responsive? I don't believe my current bindings (although brand new) have lateral release. They are some solomon bindings, not sure about the exact model. Can someone please help me with what I should do, I cant get re injured every season and have to pack up early.
I know that rossignol fks/look pivots (same exact binding) are pretty good for your knees, as they have a rotating heel piece. Those might be easier on your ankles. What bindings do you currently have?
^exactly. If your having ankle issues in falls your boots don't fit. They are most likly too big or just too high volume. Your ankle should not really be able to turn in a boot, boots are infact often very good for bad ankles. For ankle injuries a custom footbed is essential so hopefully you have those already. But overall start by taking your boots to a good bootfitter and have him take a look at the fit.
it seems like you should focus on pt and getting your ankle back in good condition if its to the point where you cant even ski. the bindings wont have much of an affect on it, because if the forward pressure is set up right, they should all be about the same as far as how responsive they are, the only gear you should even consider changing is your boots
I have Look Pivots now, (same binding as Rossi's FKS) and I love them! I had Rossi's Axle 2 Freerides or whatever they are and broke the breaks 3 times and the heal piece twice within a month... And now that I'm on the Pivots I LOVE them and I will never go back. They release exactly when they should and don't when you should be in... For example if you land far on edge or twist a weird way the heal piece will pivot and spin around causing you to release very safely even with a high din setting... But I haven't had any problems with coming out from landing too hard or pre releasing with these bindings.. And no broken brakes!! Very solid bindings and definitely recommend them.
