Trying so hard to wear a helmet

Dudes, I can't fucking do it. I've got a receptor bug and a maze and I cannot wear this shit. Drives me crazy, feel like a bobble head, and for some fucking reason, I feel like my balance is weird when I wear one. What is wrong with me!? Too many years of going without I guess. Tips to make it comfortable?

Try putting on a beanie underneath. Try removing some of the foam pieces. I'm personally not a fan of how the bug fits unless I wear a beanie underneath.

wear it as much as possible even when not skiing so you get a bit more used to it.

get a helmet like the giro shiv or smith maze. super light and still are very protective

I like berns, slimmer fit than any other helmet, but it might just not work for you

I do have worn a beanie which does make it much more comfortable. I think I am just hung up on it, feel kinda stupid explaining to people that I don't wear a helmet "cuz it like……..feels off."

What exactly makes it uncomfortable? It may be too big or too small.

I can understand the awkwardness of wearing one, I didn't wear one in my teenage years. I definitely do now and have gotten used to it.

My best advice would be to go into your local ski shop, try on different sizes and brands of helmets, and find one that feels comfortable. Then force yourself to ski with it, eventually it will feel natural.

make sure to tighten the chin strap so it doesn't 'feel like a bobble head' so much. I was having that problem and I tightened the strap, the next time I went skiing I felt more balanced and in control than ever before.

You could always wear a D3o beanie instead. I feel the same way wearing a helmet, I can't even make it through doorways without smacking my head on them I just can't get used to the extra circumference around my head and everything feels off like you say, especially my hearing. I wear a d3o beanie though and it's saved my head numerous times, plus it's good for more than one impact.

Those of you saying to wear a beanie under your helmet; your helmet should be snug against your head if it fits properly you won't have room for a beanie under there.

get a holt, pull out the guts, wear a hat and goggles. put helmet over that. you wont even notice it.

take the maze and take all the padding and stuff out then just wear a beanie underneath it feels like you dont have a helmet on.

I used to have a Giro Shiv, super light, but I got a concussion on not that bad of a fall with it. Not super stoked on it. Have the receptor bug now and like it wayyy more. Try it with a beanie underneath, I find with a beanie and goggles underneath, and no earpads that helmets are WAYYYY more comfortable. I've got a really big head, and with earpads especially, my head feels like a grape being crushed. I'm still tinkering around though, because I also sweat wicked bad, which causes my beanie to get saturated, and then that causes my goggles to fog really bad.

don't take the foam out. I think he means if there's any pads on the inside that try and make your head comfy, maybe move those around. definitely don't remove any of the foam that's keeping your head safe.
