Ski/Snow Bike?

I wasn't sure where to post this because it's not technically 'skiing' but anyways, I was looking around on the inter webs and I came across this thing called a ski bike. It is basically a bike with the wheels taken off and replaced with skis. Also you can either put spokes coming out of the side for petals or use really tiny skis to steer. Has anyone here ever built or used one of these? They look really fun and given the fact I have an injury and materials lying around I thought it would be cool to build one.

I didn't say buy them, I said check them out. Get some ideas about what you want to do.

And also, it would be impossible to make them for free. You'd still have to buy materials. LOL

Finally a thread that's not about the olympics. These look like a blast I've definitely seen dudes launching huge whips with these off the medium line at Key before. Would probably take some getting used to but I really want to try one of these out.

if you're not pedaling, why not just ski?

Ktrak conversion kits seem to be pretty cool

See a guy at my home mountain on one all the time. Iv never done it but he seems to have fun with it haha. Might as well try it out if you got the stuff for the build

yeah, or use ski blades or whatever janky stuff you'll have fun on. I was just trying to show some other approaches to snow-biking.

if you can weld, probably the best way to go. weld the top of the truck to the wheel hub and you'd be set. you can drill through the base of the ski (drill from the base to the top sheet, and countersink the hole so the bolt will be flush) and then bolt the skis onto the trucks. you'd want to take off the sprocket, chain, and cog. also consider removing the cranks and welding pegs in their place... you could attach pedals to the top of them so you could anchor your feet as well.

I invented those things 15+ years ago. Maybe they already existed but I drew up plans with the skis and everything.

I felt like the guy with the rollerblades from that invention commercial when I saw them.

I'd love one of these bikes. My dad and his MTB buddies ride these on the trails after the snowmobiles track them out. They stud their tires with wood screws haha.

I've made a ski bike out of a shitty bike ad old skis I found, worked pretty decent, and at keystone I rented a ski bike and it was unreal but the bikes they have are about 600$ ski bikes are awesome but a pain in the ass on the lifts!

I got one a few years back and those things are terrible unless the conditions are good. Even if your on packed snow you can barely turn. I ride bmx a lot and even with experience if your going to try and do other things like tricks then just ride it your going to have a bad time.

Did you have one where you also had boards on your feet to steer or did you have spots on the bike for your feet to go. I feel like using your feet would make it a lot easier to turn
