Spinal compression fracture

So I'm about two weeks into having a compression fracture in my lower spine (landed on my ass from a height) and after seeing a real doctor yesterday they confirmed my diagnosis and gave me a back brace. Its not one of those aluminum monster ones, but its still a metal cage on my torso. It's super uncomfortable on the chest (maybe because I don't have pectoral muscles but that's neither here nor there) and I doubt I can go 8 weeks with it. They tell me it's not a very bad fracture (20% height loss in the vertebra), so should I wear it? They said it's not necessary but I want to heal up quick

I have to wear mine but if it doesn't hurt not to wear then you probably don't have to as long as you don't go around making it worse. I'm recovering from a compression fracture to T7, T8 and T9. I caught the catch fence at the top of a turn in a skier cross course and tumbled and at one point I landed on my head and it crushed the vertebrae (that's why I wear a helmet).
