Apparently there is 2 heats- top 4 from each make it to the final. then, of the those that didn't make the cut, there is a semifinal to decide the remaining 4 of 12 that make it to the final.

Kind of a funky format. Is skiing the same?

dont think so, if you look at the schedule skiing only has qualifying then finals, no "semi-finals". It' also sort of wack that the qualifiers and finals are on the same day.

this is a snowboarding thread, not skiing. snowboarding has semis.

on the other hand i had to go to some serious trouble to get a stream here in aus (dont get me started im so annoyed). is anyone else on CBC and can barely hear the commentators?

How was the judging?
Why does everyone that didnn't qualify go into a semi final? Do those that got to the semis then have a chance to go through to the final again?

they realized that with only quali and finals the riders who didn't qualify would be already out before the olympics started. so they changed format, so every rider that did NOT make top4 in his heat today gets another chance in semifinal...the top 4 from there advance to the final aswell, so we have a 12 man final.

Every rider will go so semi finals, but the 1st 4 in each heat are directly qualified for the finals, so Mc Morris will probably save his ass...

He's not out. There's a third heat made up of everyone who placed 5th or worse in the first two heats. If he gets top 4 in that heat, he's in finals.

Oh, and I didn't watch it so I can't speak to the judging, but just from that, his rails were pretty mediocre. If in fact the judges consistently took that portion of the course into account and docked people who mailed in the rails, I'm not at all opposed to that; in fact I'd much prefer it. You should never be able to win a slope contest just by murdering the jump section.

watching the coverage of the qualis here in Canada, it really shows how badly the media needs a pre-determined narrative to stick to. they've already decided that McMorris is the Canadian to watch, so most of the headlines are about him losing rather than Parrot and Toutant winning.

As I read through this thread it appears to be the first time mentioned unless I missed something. Yeah it's a live stream but he could at least talk during the run.

Every single time the snowboard slope stuff is mentioned on NS somebody says something about the announcer on the NBC stream. Yeah, he's terrible. Who fucking cares. Mute it if it bothers you.

It's more so a general thing, not exclusive to this thread. I think there has been more discussion about how terrible the announcers have been than anything else.
